I honestly cannot thank Dr. McCord and his awesome staff enough! I was told 13 years ago by two surgeons that I had exhausted all my options and surgery or life long pain management were my only choices. The thought of having surgery on my spine truly scared me to death. I also refused to be stuck on pain medication, as I’m a nurse, and therefore fully knowledgeable of all the problems that can cause. I dealt with the pain for 11 years, until it got to the point that I literally couldn’t do anything active, couldn’t stand to stand or sit very long at all, and was miserable, so I finally had to make a change. I heard very positive reviews from two friends who had previously had surgery by Dr. McCord, so I got on his website to research his approach and to read some additional reviews, and then I finally made an appointment to see him. After x-rays, an MRI, discogram, and one additional test (that I cannot remember the name of), he thoroughly explained to me what my problem areas were and what he would do to fix it. His nurse Robin, explained every detail of what he would do in the surgery, even showing me examples of the titanium hardware that he would be using, so that I could completely envision what my two-part surgery would entail.
Obviously I was still very nervous to have an in depth surgery on my spine, but I went through with the surgery at the end of November 2019, was back to work at my office job the end of January, and by March, I was back in the gym, and working PRN on the weekends in the hospital setting, which I had not been able to do in years due to the severe pain that the 12+ hours on the floor would cause. Had I known that it would have improved my quality of life as much as it did, I would have had it done 11 years prior. But I am so very thankful that I was referred by friends to Dr. McCord, and was able to have him fix it correctly the first time.
I just went back to Dr. McCord this past year as I had started having much more pain, along with associated issues such as nerve pain down my arm, from the bad disc in my cervical spine. I was once again getting to the point that I could no longer do much without paying greatly for it for days after. I had the two-part surgery on my cervical spine the last week of December, and so far so good. Hoping that following my healing from this surgery, I’ll have as much relief as I did from my lumbar spine surgery. Once again with this second surgery, his staff was so helpful, and genuinely caring. Robin and Sherry quickly returned any calls I made to them, and made sure I had everything I needed to properly and comfortably heal. I truly can’t thank them enough!
I would refer anyone I know, having spinal issues to go see Dr. McCord, as does my husband, since he’s seen first hand the change it made in me. The life he has given me back has truly been priceless!
*A little additional note… Not that the appearance of the scars that you’ll have should be your reason to choose a surgeon, but Dr. McCord takes his time when sewing up incisions, and truly makes them to where they are almost invisible once healed. As a female, that’s truly appreciated! 😉
