Dr. Dackiw did my total thyroidectomy and right neck dissection a year ago, and I couldn't be happier with it. Even right after waking up post-op, I could speak...didn't have to whisper and wasn't hoarse. Even though there was cancer around my vocal cords that had to be taken off, within a week or two I was talking as loudly as ever. Now, one year out, my scar (all six inches of it) is so thin and flat that nobody even sees it unless I point it out, and I haven't had any complications. I'm going back to Dr. Dackiw for my next surgery because he did such a great job last time. Would highly recommend him, as well as all the JH staff. Everyone there was great!

I had a rather large thyroid tumor (4.5cms) in which the biopsy revealed abnormal cells but unsure what they are. After much discussion with Dr. Dackiw, we decided to remove the tumor and one lobe of the thyroid (done 2/15/11). The pathology came back positive for papillary cancer with metastasis to my lymph nodes. Fortunately, he removed all the cancer. On May 23rd, I went back for a thyroid completion. I am now currently being treated with radioactive iodine with an endocrinologist. I cannot describe in words how professional, courteous, knowledgeable and respectful he is. He answered all my questions, treated me like a human being and did a fantastic job on both of my surgeries. I am a nurse and being on the other side of health care is hard. Dr. Dackiw took away all my fears and made me feel comfortable. I would recommend him to anyone anyday!

He is an excellent doctor and surgeon. He did our son’s surgery in 2002 and saved his life. We are for ever grateful to him. Our son has MEN 2B and had to have his thyroid removed and parathyroid and several lymph nodes. Thanks to Dr. Dackiw he has been well.

I saw Dr. Dackiw after I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism. He performed my parathyroidectomy earlier this year. Dr. Dackiw and the Hopkins staff were wonderfully accomodating and knowledgable. He has great bedside manner and more importantly, he is an excellent surgeon. My scar is healing nicely and I am very happy with the results. The only thing I was unhappy about was my post-op treatment. I began to experience symptoms of hypocalcemia about three weeks post op and called both him and his nurse practicioner, Brenda Smith, to get advice on what to do. Neither of them ever called me back. They both encouraged me to contact them should I have any problems and symptoms of hypocalcemia can be quite scary. I would recommend this surgeon BUT I would caution - should you have any complications, you may have to look elsewhere.

Im a 46 year old male in Maryland. I had 2 biopsies that came back suspicious for Hurtle Cell Neoplasm. I searched long and hard for an EXPERT surgeon in the Thyroid field. After talking to people at the New York Thyroid Medical Center (a leader in the Thyroid field) I was referred to Dr Alan Dackiw as an expert. They consider an Expert to be someone who has done over 1000 operations on the Thyroid Gland. I was a big sissy going thru this but Dr Dackiw and his assistant Brenda made me alot more relaxed. I had the surgery to remove half my Thyroid on 01/12/2011. Whithin 2 days I was up and around and pretty much doing day to day stuf. Dr Dackiw took great care in avoiding my vocal nerves, nerves in my neck and my parathyroids which controls calcium. The surgery went perfect. My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with a suspicious tumor (possible papillary carcinoma) via fine needle aspiration last October. We were stunned, but were very fortunate that Dr. Dackiw agreed to take her case (pediatric). He saw my daughter within ten days of the diagnosis, and performed the surgery within the next month. He was extremely professional and was there for my little girl every step of the way. The tumor pathology confirmed the diagnosis. The surgery went as well as could be expected. No bleeding or complications. I am very greatful to Dr. Dackiw and the staff at Hopkins.

Dr. Dackiw is AWESOME! I can not imagine anyone ever saying anything bad about him. He has always gone the extra mile to take very good care of me. Even one year later, we still keep in touch. I have referred family and friends to him and they only have good things to say too. He is a wonderful person and a very gifted surgeon. I can not imagine that part of my life without him in it. Dr. Dackiw is a very knowledgeable and thorough endocrine surgeon. He listens to his patients and gives wonderful care. I had parathyroid surgery with him in 2007 and I currently have another parathyroid tumor and I will not consider having any other surgeon remove this tumor. He is very caring of his patients. My parathyroid surgery was the easiest surgery I have had. I was and still am impressed with the care I received. Thank you, Dr. Dackiw.

I had a tumor on one right parathyroid removed 4/17/07. Dr. Dackiw removed said tumor, and before I left the hospital, some of my symptoms had already started to subside. Before my surgery, I was so sick, I thought I was going to die. I researched, visited, and chose Dr. Dackiw. He removed the correct parathyroid, and gave me my life back. Thank you, Dr. Dackiw. I will be forever grateful to you for your expertise, professionalism, knowledge, and kindness. Should I ever develop a problem with my thyroid or parathyroid again, you will be the first doctor I will consult!
