Where to start… My granddaughters are 4 and 2 respectively. Dr. Bruck has been their pediatrician since each of their birth forward. There have been several disagreements with his treating “style” in the past but none of the concerns that were seemingly too great not to be able to discussed and come to terms on an amicable solution and treatment plan for the girls – until recently.
My youngest granddaughter was ill and her mother, my daughter – who lives with me, called the office to advise of the symptoms and ask if she should take the child to the ER. She was met with the usual placations and patronizations until they heard her throat was so badly inflamed from waiting as she was instructed to do, she was choking. “Bring her into the office, they said, right away. Don’t go to the ER.”
Upon arrival to Bruck’s office, she was tested for strep and despite the visual positive signs, her great distress and temp in excess of 103.5, they refused an injection and insisted on “calling in two medications.” This was at 3:00 PM. When the mother asked for an injection of antibiotics to be given to get a jump start on this issue, the answer given was thusly; “no, we don’t really do that anymore. Its too expensive to keep in the office to give to one child. She should be alright in a few days, if not, go to the ER, they can give an injection there.”
So my daughter left with my sick granddaughter, with a 103.5 temp, a supposed negative strep and screaming in distress. From 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM we called the pharmacy looking for the meds. All to no avail. Called 4 times the on-call to speak with Jennifer, who is useless. I personally waited greater than 45 minutes each time for her to answer and I was 1st in que. Finally, the meds were called into the pharmacy without explanation or apology.
My daughter took my granddaughter to the ER that evening at Palms West. She was promptly seen and she was treated. She tested positive for strep. They gave her an injection on antibiotics and fluids. Her temp was immediately brought down.
Today, my daughter went for a checkup with Bruck, he was argumentative, said the Hospital does NOT have the best interests of their patients at hand – if so, why would he have referred us over to them?
Said my granddaughter could not have possibly tested positive for strep. Children DO NOT acquire strep, it’s impossible – If that’s the case, why did he test her for strep then prescribe two medications?
Previous issue was a GI issue and said it was a behavioral issue my granddaughter had not emptied her bowels in 10 days. – Followed up with a GI and said thankfully we were there when we were, was serious medical issue.
Bruck says children DO NOT have issues will gall stones then proceeds to tell a story of another patient who had them. My older granddaughter is taken for ultrasound and found she has them after he refuses to treat for weeks.
My advice to you, if Bruck is your child’s physician or that of someone you care about, run don’t walk to find another. Someone more qualified, more competent and caring. My name is Brian Martino and I am a long time Wellington resident. I don’t hide, I speak loud and proud. I have made the necessary reports to the Board of Medicine and ALL insurances. If you love your children, find another physician.
