My appointments are on Friday, his half day and I'm prepared to wait, thankfully. Only two visits so far and waiting is the name of the game. I read. ONe is not supposed to complain though. Jane - fantastic! I fear she is not appreciated. Staff is key! Over and above the doctor!

After my doctor retired I did a computer search of Doctors in the city and found Dr. Merker, after reading all of the reviews posted here I can't understand how so many of these patients can say so many negative things. I've been seeing Dr. Merker for more than five years and I have even pursuaded my wife to change doctors and make him her primary doctor. First let me say that Niki and Jane are the most wondeful polite and professional people you'll ever meet. I have always made my visits so that I can be his first patient in the morning and I have never waited more than an hour which in this city I think is very good. His new office is clean brite and well laid out and the doctor takes his time and always asks the right questions and has your full medical file right in front of him on his computer, and much like my old doctor I can call at any time and ask Jane or Niki to call in a prescription to my pharmacy without question. Wish more doctors were like him.

Waiting 1.5 - 2 hours for appointments, being interupted when talking, taking personal calls (on one case for over 10 minutes) are among a few of the reasons why I can no longer back to him. Also, he insists that you go to him for blood work (paying the higher insurance copay for him as a specialist) so you can get blood drawn is not appropriate for the condition I have (straightforward low thyroid - if you have this, you know the drill). I can't even begin to put it in words.

I've bounced around to different doctors because I distrust their style of recommending numerous tests unrelated to my condition and medications without supporting my efforts to first engage in life style changes. In contrast, Dr. Merker has been extremely helpful in this regard and this has had a very positive effect on my health status. I find him and his staff to be very competent, kind and thoughtful. True, you sometimes have a long wait but he is worth it.

This guy is a complete joke! He carries around three phones with him and likes to take calls while his patients wait for him to get off the phone. He's known for taking calls from family and friends, but not patients. I had blood work done with this poor excuse of a doctor, and after a week waiting for him to get back to me to explain my test results, and leaving messages galore, I gave up and made an appointment with another endocrinologist just to explain the blood work I did with Merker! Also, he doesn't introduce himself but that doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is his reluctance to return my calls. Was he waiting for me to drop dead before he gave me a ring? Please, do not waste your time with this idiot. You can find someone else. It's not worth the frustration and stress he will cause.

Unfortunately, I would not recommend Dr. Merker. I had 2 appointments with both first thing in the morning at 8:30 am. The wait time was over 2 hours. The staff does not give you the full story and says any minute now. His bed side manner is not good. I am going to look for another doctor.

Awful experience. I went twice to see him and both times he was over 1 hour late. The staff kept saying any minute now and any minute was an hour ago! If you have plenty of time to sit around his office, by any means go visit him. Staff was clueless as well.

The staff is generally very nice and the Dr, Merker is knowledgeable, but lacks empathy toward his patients. He is so focused on the procedure (which is a good thing) that he forgets to acknowledge the patient's feelings and presence. A big concern I have as his patient is that Dr. Merker has no information on his profile page (education, experience, etc.) I googled his name and very little information was given about him. This makes me want to change to another endocrinologist. I am considering this at the present moment.

The front desk as the uptown office is a nightmare to deal with, at the downtown office the front desk is ok. The woman who follows him to both offices, Jane, is great. Unfortunately, Jane is the only person who is any good at dealing with people as Dr. Merker needs to work on his bedside manner and communication skills. Expect to wait a long time - especially if you have an afternoon appointment at the uptown office.
