Took excellent care of my daughter during and after her deliveries. I fully trust this Doctor , not one time was i ever let down by decisions made. He was always pleasant and caring. The Dr. Ira Shapiro, I know is the best OBGYN. I've been seeing him for over 18yrs. He's very sypathetic, kind, caring. He has never been rude or unkind to me ever. He's delivered my 2 children, and knows my husband & children's names after all of these years. I've had multiple GYN problems over the years and he's been able to sucessfully diagnose, treat, and cure all of them. He is honest and up front about what to expect and what's needed for treatment. Everything from tumors, cysts, fibroids, pre-cancer, you name it we've been through it together. I will not see another OBGYN.

I hate to say negative things about someone who helped me--Dr Shapiro removed a basketball-sized tumor even though I had no insurance. I should note that this was several years ago. I was only eighteen, and Dr Shapiro told me I had to sign consent for a complete hystorectomy and if I didn't, the tumor would 'burst and kill me'. I was devastated, truly devastated, and found his bedside manner to be sorely lacking. As it turned out, the backup surgeon present stopped him from doing the hystorectomy and I am still able to have children. My biggest problem with his care was post-op pain management. I had an incision from my breastbone to my pelvic bone, with nearly forty staples closing it. Probably due to my young age and the "resiliency" percieved to go along with youth, Dr Shapiro sent me home with ADVIL for the pain. The middle of my first night home, we called the on-call MD and he was shocked I hadn't been given something decent. All in all- lousy experience.

I was Ira Shapiro's patient for several years. Initially, I was impressed. I have medical background experience and consider myself informed. Something noticably changed and I believe HE is depressed and burned out. His staff was incredibly rude and insensitive. Example: One week following major reconstructive open knee surgery (5 fractures and pins in my leg, non weight bearing on crutches) he refused to refill a prescription for me that he had told me I needed to take for life....unless I came in for an exam, which I had done recently and was not overdue for. I could barely make it to the living room from my bedroom after this surgery on my leg, much less go to his office. I explained my medical condition to deaf ears. When my mother died he also suggest I see a Psychiatrist...he didn't even know anything about her death or listen to me. He jumped to conclusions about my needs or lack of. I think this man is sick!

Ira Shapiro ranks as the most unsympathetic, most aggressively hostile doctor I have ever had the misfortune to meet. from our first office meeting, he was deeply negative in attitude. He was convinced I had ovarian cancer (I did not, it turns out), and pushed aggressively (!) for a complete hysterectomy as soon as he got back from his vacation, which coincided with the death of my father. He was so cruel as to perform an endometrial biopsy with NO anesthetic, and no warning. the day before surgery (the day my father died), he stood over me, shaking his finger, and declared me "the most dysfunctionally depressed woman" he had ever met, and he has seen thousands (seems to me he may have created a few). He said I needed medication (this is practicing psychiatry without a licence!). He would not answer questions about his method of performing hysterectomies. Ira Shapiro, is, I believe, a mysogynist, and I do not say that lightly.
