Mother saw him for 30+ years. He left practice without informing patients. No records to retrieve. Bad practice, inconsiderate!

I have been seeing him for 35+ years and he is a knowledgable and a great surgeon. I have had 2 knee surgeries and later 2 knee replacements. He recommended back injections that have been wonderful. I rarely have back problems anymore. He is a believer in physical therapy and I have always been happy with the results. I heartily recommend him to anyone who has bone or joint problems. His office staff is the best. I have heard this story. Some man took his mother to The Mayo Clinic and they told him the best orthopedic surgeon in Knoxville. The trained at the Mayo Clinic.

Very good doctor. Had shoulder surgury and he didn't want me to move it for two months. I had a torn and disconnected labrim, 14 month old injury. Only needed 14 visits to therapy and did the rest of my exercising at home. I have full use of my shoulder now and all feeling back.It took 7 months for one nerve to grow back so be patient. Knows what he's doing. Highly reccomened!!!! Also, his office staff is great.

In 1984 Dr. Burhart did a total knee replacement on me. It is still as good as ever. He has also done ankle surgery on my daughter and back surgery on my husband. I find his "bedside manner" rather abrupt but am willing to sacrifice personality for an excellent surgeon. Would highly recommend.

He is a good surgeon and that's where it ends. Would not listen to me or change anything he does to accommodate special circumstances. I have a sensory processing disorder and am hyper-sensitive to pain and pain medication does not work effectively on me, but evidently if it's good enough for the 90 pound woman in the next room then it should be good enough for me. He replaced the ACL in my right knee, threw me in a hinge brace set to 30/60 and sent me on my way. I will be 5 weeks into recovery the next time I see him and still no therapy or even the willingness to listen to what I have to say. He has walked out of the room twice right in the middle of me asking him something and just went to the next patient. All the information I can find says that therapy should start by the second week at the latest, flexibility should be back to normal by week 4 and total recovery by 8 weeks. Five weeks and nothing but pain, stiffness and being ignored. It will take years to walk right again.

Great doctor. Could not have been better. Had three previous back surgeries and each time with worse results. Have seen him since 1983. My last back surgery was then and had excellent results. Completely confident in recommmending him to anyone considering surgery.

Excellent care. Have been to Dr. Burkhart several times over a 30 year span and have never been disappointed in the quality of care or level of knowledge.
