If I could give a higher review than I would. Dr. Geller displayed the highest level of professionalism and patient-centeredness in the care of my mother when she was scared with excruciating pain. After correctly diagnosing her that time, we called him later when she had pain that he identified as consistent with appendicitis. He saved her life because we went to the ER and then had surgery. He went to visit her after surgery and stayed in touch. He is knowledgeable which is what you want in a physician, but also a personable human being which is why I would always pick him over any other GI. He cares which is a rarity now a days.

The only reason I did not give even lower ratings is that Dr Geller was helpful to me last fall when I went to him for acute food poisoning. This summer I had to go for acute GI distress and had a very different experience. He was clearly distracted and uninterested in my case, and took a total of three phone calls during the time that he was supposed to be consulting with me. Consequently, I had to repeat information. He was unfamiliar with the medication that I thought might be the source of my problem and told me twice to see my own doctor: I explain he is a GP and Dr. Geller is a GI specialist. He gave me a cursory exam, said he'd give me a prescription to settle my stomach, and ordered three tests: Ultrasound, blood work, stool samples. Staff handed me the papers, which I thought were complete. I asked for lab recommendations. They had no idea and clearly didn't care. I went home and realized he had never written the prescription for the medications. IN the meantime I continued having cramps and being unable to eat. I had the first two tests done immediately. About a week later a staff person called to say ultrasound was unremarkable. I asked about other tests and she had no idea what I was taking about. I asked her to ask. About five days later she called with blood test results. I continued to have issues. There was no followup on my welfare. Two weeks after I submitted stool samples, I went to the lab to see what the holdup was and found they had done nothing with the samples because of a missing document: they did not contact me because they had an outdate phone number (had not bothered to get current contact information - don't ever use Penn Medicine Labs.) That meant my samples might no longer be valid. I called Dr. Geller's office to ask what the next steps should be and left a message. This was a challenge because they had no record of me being a patient, nor did they seem concerned. By reminding them of the exact date and time I had come in, they were able to find me: someone had entered my birthdate wrong. I left a message. That was three days ago. At this point - 6 pounds lighter and able to eat, if only bland foods - I have decided to entirely give up on Dr. Geller. I will try consulting my regular doctor during my annual physical: I know he can be depended on to listen and care. In my opinion Dr. Geller has taken on too many commitments, has too many patients, has no time to supervise staff, and cannot maintain quality of care. As of late August, 2020, I would advise you to stay away unless things change dramatically.

Dr. Geller was a kind and compassionate doctor when I brought my mother in to see him. He spent so much time making her feel comfortable and was one of the first doctors who actually sat and listened to her. My mother is now back to her old self and has not felt this good in years. Thank you Dr. Geller, and I would recommend him to everyone!

This Dr. has a wonderful personality. He is very down to earth. There is a long wait to be seen as a new patient.

Took 8 weeks to get the initial appointment. When I got there, only 3 people were ahead of me but I still waited over an hour until I got into exam room. Then I waited some more. Took 2 hours in total before I left office. Dr just wasn't with me all that long. Dr. seems very competent; however, I can't even begin to grade his staff (so bad). Scheduling is the absolute worse. After waiting 8 weeks for an appointment, I had to wait 9 more weeks to get the tests that I went for scheduled and they can't won't provide an appointment time. They want to call 2 days before and schedule test time then. Also, they will not perform colonoscopy and endoscopy together, so then I have to wait an additional 2 weeks to get the second test. I've had these tests performed concurrently before so I know it's possible but I believe it's simply to maximize Dr billing to insurance. I won't go back and unless you have 3 - 4 months to wait I don't recommend his office.

Dr. Geller is great. His staff - as others have said - is the worst. Rude, rude, rude! Rude to me and just about every person in the waiting room. This older woman came in [with a walker who could barely walk] on the wrong day and they were yelling at her! I told the doctor about his staff and he said he knows because so many people complain about them. Get some new help!

Agree with the comments about the staff. The Doctor is excellent, the staff is the exact opposite. Sometimes rude, unprofessional, poor attitude towards the patients. The Doctor himself is GREAT!!!!!ONE OF THE BEST. Wish my perception of his office was not tainted by the staff.

I am leaving this doctor simply because his staff appears to be inefficient. Dr. Geller is a VG doctor but lacking in his discipline of his staffing getting it right the first time.

Competent, attentive, warm, compassionate and reassuring. One of the best. Some of the office staff, not so much.
