Dr. Smith is a gem! After many doctors telling me my symptoms were in my head or I just needed more exercise, I really started to believe I was just going to feel lousy for the rest of my life. As a last resort I went to Dr. Smith after a friend said he is the best of the best. At my first appointment, before he even took me into the exam room, he exclaimed my thyroid was huge! Turns out I had Hashimoto's Disease and thyroid cancer! Dr. Smith and his staff have been so supportive through the whole process and got me right into MDAnderson for treatment. Like everyone else has stated, you usually have to wait an extra 30 minutes or so, but it is soooo worth it! I'll come in with a list of questions and things I've found on the internet and he will patiently listen and explain everything. He's been in practice a loooong time but I don't think he'll ever retire. It's obvious he loves what he does and he loves his patients!

Whenever possible, I scheduled my appointments for right after lunch. If he ran late during the morning, he barely grabbed a bite at lunch so the afternoon's patients wouldn't start late. I moved 4 hours away and found a new doctor in San Antonio. In all of the questions he asked me about my medical history, the one that stood out the most was: "If you were Dr. Smith's patient, why are you here?" The new doc knew of patients that would travel even farther than 4 hours to stay with Dr. Smith! Dr. Smith, by far, is the most thorough, intuitive, concerned physician I have ever met. At first I resented the wait to see him, but that after my first visit, when I became aware of how detailed he is, and how he won't rush anyone, I no longer minded. Well, not as much anyway.

I love Dr. Smith, he is a wonderful doctor with a great bedside manor. He makes you feel comfortable at all times, even when the circumstances can be less than desirable. You can genuinely tell that he loves what he does and is very passionate about his work. He takes his time to answer all of your questins, and you never feel rushed out the door, as you do with many doctors. He has a great sense of humor and always has a smile on his face. He is very conservative when it comes to practicing, and always errors on the side of caution, which I respect and I know that he is looking out for my best interest.

Virtually a life saver for me over MANY years. PCOS, failing thyroid, general mismanagement of many disorders by other physicians and (now) menopause left me in bad shape physically and emotionally. I really look forward to seeing him even though I'm paying out-of-network. He has explained so much and spent so much time with me! I am enormously grateful. I might be stretching it saying he is punctual but I balance that against the time he gives me and the fact that I know there might be a wait and just plan for it. It's well worth it!!! I really do feel sorry for anyone who is not getting this quality of care - it's a rarity.

I saw 4 different doctors for PCOS and hypothyroidism, Dr. Smith was the only one able to help me. He takes time explaining the tests he orders, the results, and listens to you. I always leave the office with a copy of my blood tests or other tests. You also get follow up appointments that are a month to 6 weeks apart (instead of 6 months apart with the previous REs I saw). If you haven't felt well with the "standard" treatments of other doctors, and want a doctor that will find the source of your symptoms and will listen to you, I highly recommend him.
