He has a heavy patient load as he takes in Medicare and Medicaid. He does not want to turn anyone away by preference. This a crowded room. He makes Hospital round 7 days a week and one of the few senior Physicians that does that 7 days a week.

He took care of my mom for many years, unfortunately (if you can call it that). She suffered through a condition that was entirely CURABLE but he did nothing for more than a decade. She ended up hospitalized under the care of a different physician who got rid of the condition in two weeks. Unfortunately the damage had been done and could not be reversed. He continued to come and visit her in the hospital, spending less than 5 minutes examining her each time. Once I saw him listening to her lungs while his stethoscope was on a TUBE! We fired his ass. I only wish my mom had not trusted him for so long. If Dr. Pien is your doctor, RUN FAR, FAR away.

Is rather quick with diagnosis, which are often accurate. Dr. Pien has been able to resolve the majority of our concerns on the first visit for an ailment, and has resolved all ailments if second visit were necessary.

I have known Dr. Pien for almost 40 years and he's one of the most intelligent physicians I've ever known among a group of very intelligent people. Yes, he's always pressed for time because so many physicians recognize his supreme knowledge of his specialty that they refer large numbers of patients. Most days Dr. Pien works 12-15 hours and renders superb care. If he had the time he'd sit with a patient all day, but that's not realistic. Hawaii's fortunate to have this gentleman as a medical resource, and he's very successful in a very difficult field. Dr. FJB

Dr Pien is very knowledgeable. He was always thorough with my treatment and stayed 'on top' of the many treatments until I was completely well. I know he has a busy schedule but he always took time to answer my questions and explain what was happening.

He knows what he's doing ......thank goodness. No warm fuzzy but I can get my hugs at home. If you have any questions it helps if you come prepared ...... his time is precious & his rates are reasonable.

You see this infectious disease expert for his cutting-edge knowledge, not for his bedside manner, which is lacking. He is ranked at the top of his field but he is brusque and busy, busy, busy. Got a question about your treatment? Be prepared to block his doorway and don't let him get away if you want a conversation. You see Dr. Pien to be cured of a difficult infection, not for a warm and fuzzy relationship.
