After Duke Hospital docs only put me on prednisone and dismissed everything I reported, Dr Kernodle listened carefully to my description of symptoms and started me on medication that actually worked. He is caring and knowledgeable. He doesn't talk down to me or ignore me. He takes the time to listen and is actually concerned with how I am doing and how I feel, and in getting me better. I wish all doctors were like him!

I have seen Dr Kernodle for 2 different problems and he is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The first visit was for a problem that other Dr's could not help me with. He fixed the issue. The second vist was a separate issue and he was also knowledgeable and helpful. He is update on my problem and the issues with it.

After a brief examination and no attempt to get to know me as an individual, he recommended an RA treatment that was popular when he was in med school 30 yrs ago. He seemed frightened when asked questions about newer research. He pushed his wheeled stool away until his back was to the door. He made it clear that he dismissed patient research, patients who research, and the internet. (Had he asked, he might have discovered that his patient was an IT professor and might be trusted to discriminate among websites.) I believe that he does not wish to know anything about his patients as people, but is only interested in a collection of symptoms. When I asked for my X-rays to take to another doctor, the staff person seemed frightened. She said, "Dr Wally uses those in his research. He does not let them leave." I told her that I would return MY x-rays so she let me take them. I only hope that she did not get into too much trouble when I did not return MY x-rays.
