Things have improved since I first started coming. New chairs in the waiting room. No more 2 hour waiting time. The place isnt as disgusting. Calling times are 10am AND they answer the phone. Dr Barb has been out alot due to illness, sometimed I feel rushed. He tries. He is doing medication management, just what the insurance pays. He doesnt do much counseling or anything. But, the place has improved.

I like Dr Barb. He is smart and is up on the latest medications. Sometimes I feel he prescribes things as a type of experiment to see how one will respond. I have run the gamant of meds, but he is a psychiatrist--that is what they do. Unlike Patel (who he shares an office with), he takes time with you. You do not feel rushed. This is perhaps how he gets so far behind in his appointments. Need new furniture that can be wiped down! Couch reeked of urine, bathroom was disgusting. They have gotten better at their wait time I have noticed--not triple booking. The office staff either: does not answer the phone and lets it go to voicemail, or takes the phone off the hook. I tried calling for nearly an hour and got a busy signal. They are among the rudest folks you can find--one of them is Dr. Patel's wife (the owner) she can be a real witch. I stick with Barb because he seems among the most knowledgable and low-keyed shrinks around. He also seems to check his ego at the door. Kudos for Barb.

Wait: 1-3 hours in a cramped, dirty, smelly room. Smell of urine and cigarette smoke looms on the couch. Office staff, rude, indifferent. Dr Barb is quirky, prescribes lots of meds.In his defense, insurance company pays him for medication management not therapy. They, the insurance companies don't want shrinks to TALK to you. He is always overbooked and running late. I came in one day and was told he had left for the day! The staff said they left a message for me--yeah on my home phone and I was at work all day. He is better than Dr Patel who I have seen and I thought never again. I have not found anyone near the level of Dr Barb in the area, so I stick with him.

As a long time patient, working with Barb is a bitter-sweet deal. He takes care of you, gives advice, and medicine if he thinks you need it; but he isnt very punctual (though in his defense he works a consulting job in Woodbine and it may take up his time), does seem to think a pill is the best answer, and his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. That's the good news. Inversely, there have been sour moments in treatment and I have been laughed out of his office for suggesting an alternative therapy. If you want someone who will let you cry on their shoulder, look elsewhere. Barb is "Take this and call me in the morning" sort of medicine.

I laughed my butt off at the previous entries but they are right on. The office IS like a city bus, check out the magazines. Some I never even heard of. AND the crosswords and sudukos look like they were filled in by mental patients--ME. 2 hour waits are common. Dr. Barb starts sessions with Soooooohowsitgoinggg EVERY TIME and he smiles regardless of what u tell him. He is cool with the meds. Eager to help. Dont expect counseling, just a smile and head nod. Honestly, I want what he's on. Regarding the comment about his staff not forwarding messages, I once came in and was the first appointment after he came back from vacation. He hit the button and I heard, your message box is full. I then heard are u sure u want to delete all your messages. He FREAKIN deleted EVERY message. I was absolutely floored. I said, I cant believe u did that. He said Sometimes u just have to say F it. Again, I want whatever he's on. Great guy once u get thru the waiting room. Good luck.

Dr Barb is not your usual psychiatrist. He is very smart and listens attentively. If a medication does not work or the side effects are too strong, he will try something else. His waiting room is a disaster. The other doctor double-books and the place is jammed packed. Usual wait time-1 1/2 hours. I went to Dr Patel and switched to Dr Barb last year and have been happy with his care.

I think Dr Barb is a highly intelligent Dr who is not full of himself. He is caring and kind. The downfalls are the long wait. My usual WAIT time is anywhere from 1-2 hours (once I was there for nearly 3 hours). He is always behind and the waiting room is packed. He shares his office with Dr Patel. I have had to stand at times. It felt like I was on a city bus--unkept, smoking-smelling and cramped. The office staff is uh, rude. They don't care that you have to wait. They rarely give Dr Barb his messages and you have to call over and over again. If you don't mind waiting all the time, dealing with rude folks--Doctor Barb is a gem.
