After waiting for an hour in his exam room with my Mom waiting to hear results of a biopsy and news that would change our loves forever, he came in with absolutely no "bedside manners." He sat in the corner, read the test results and said without even looking up, "Yep, you have cancer." I wanted to scream at him that this was the worst news we could possibly hear and he can't even look up from his papers as he was telling us! We promptly found a new doctor. This guy needs to retire. The day you can't have any empathy for your patients is the day you need to pack up and make room for a better doctor! By the way, our new doctor held Mom's hand at every visit!

Dr. Atkins was affiliated with the Guthrie Cancer Center in Corning NY as a temporary Oncologist. His knowledge and demeanor and chemotherapy protocol have greatly benefitted my husband. Dr. Atkins' candor and openness afforded us a great sense of control and input into treatment planning.Dr. Atkins referred my husband for a catheter insertion procedure to drain a massive pleural infusion of the lung, the Cardiothorasic surgeon deemed the procedure not needed, BUT Dr. Atkins was right! My husband had the procedure done by a Dr. of Radiology and his quality of life is dramatically improved!!We will be forever graterful to Dr. Atkins for providing us the information and giving us the determination to obtain this procedure. If not for his recommendation my husband would forever suffer the discomfort of the effusion. We are thankful for the opportunity to utilize his knowledge and would highly recommend him to other lung cancer patients.
