MUST READ
EXTREME CAUTION if you bring a child 18 or over !! Southlake needs to be aware of and deal with this situation immediately . Also please note the Dr can pay to have these honest reviews removed to boost a false rating . Which I assure you has been done. There are some very good Doctors at Southlake . However this is NOT one of them. I encourage you to read on as this lack of "care " provided can have devastating permanent , life altering outcome , as was in our case . This could save the life of yourself or someone you care about . Also this will count as your only chance for help if you get assigned to him through the hospital. He will cessate any further care if you fall into his "box " .I also recommend you immediately request a different Dr If you are there for anxiety, social anxiety and have ever self medicated because the system.has not been there . You will have something far worse than being shown the door by this man. Our child was brought there in crisis, looking for help . Dr Paramsothys personal belief system immediately discriminates against anyone in this area of need who has been assigned to him through the hospital . And as a result he will not value the indivudual whatsover, and will not value them as a human being . They are a "writeoff" in his opinion. He asked me if I had any idea what is in non prescription medication . I said "yes," I was fully aware . He bowled over me anyway.with a canned response. .
When you tell a person , yes I do know , and they answer you anyways in a rehearsed mechanical manner it means one or all of several things. They aren't listening , or they don't care what you have to say , or they don't care about the patient, and they have a firm preconceived response or they are only accustomed to being hierarchy in their environment and communication . It is obviously an emotional , vehement mantra that's been repeated many times before . Which is upsetting knowing other families have faced this .
Paramsothy never asked , never cared, never knew he was dealing with social anxiety .
He actually said " I am not wasting my time with this one. I have other patients " And he does. He has a steady source of new referrals through the hospital . He can bother with easy cases . What he did was discharge our child after a few days and ship him to a homeless shelter at the most violent part of Toronto , the Moss Park downtown area . Someone in crisis with social anxiety, who has been to Toronto twice in his life , for a Leafs game and Ripley's Aquarium , was given a cab ride to to the worst ,most overcrowded homeless shelte in Canada . There was no notice, no option given for another referral . As he was over 17 there is now patient confidentiality that can be used . Our son felt betrayed for bringing him to this person ,and what was done to him and to further complicate the situation Paramsothy implied "even your parents agree " Trust was broken . You wouid think with Paramsothys background he would understand how his communication might impact people and situations . But he's completely lacking compassion and interpersonal skills. Purely an academic who memorized but cannot apply . So , after being in crisis he thought he had no one . He felt he had no o9tions. Now our lives are changed forever as we lost him in that system . We are still looking for answers as how it happened . Therefore he is in a position to be judge jury and... yes executioner. Even though someone who turned 18 is still basically a child . This is the price of seeing this man. This man is disrespectful to employees and speaks down to them. As others have said, his language is harsh and abusive. Imagine what he's like and his level of respect when one on one with a vulnerable person ? Southlake should be aware that this is what he is doing for them in this community .

Dr. P… I have no words for his kindness, empathy, humor and compassion. He saw me through a crisis almost 9 years ago after being bounced around from doctor to doctor and he took me in under his wing like no one has ever done before. He always wants to help, he give me tough love when I need it, a feel good book recommendation he enjoyed and takes more than excellent care of me and my complex mental health issues. He is always empowering me and encouraging me to be my best self. Joanna, his office manager, is also amazing and so kind and it’s always a good day for me when I go in to his office. Smiling faces, jokes, he knows his medical stuff and is always trying to help others as much as he can. He truly saved my life. He doesn’t focus on my “labels” but sees me as a person as a whole and treats symptoms, not illnesses. I will forever be grateful and blessed to have him in my life.
Don’t ever change, Dr.P and Joanne :)

In late 2018 I went to the emergency. I have bipolar disorder and I was experiencing mania. I was given Dr. Rasiah Paramsothy and I told him I was having thoughts of suicide and insomnia. He gave me sleeping pills and told me I could go home if I wanted to. I was manic and was having paranoid thoughts about the hospital so I was not in the frame of mind to make a decision that I NEEDED to be in the hospital. My family was with me and felt that I should be in the hospital but decided that if the doctor wasn’t concerned they shouldn’t speak up. That night I attempted suicide. When I was brought back to the hospital, I was given the same doctor. He constantly blamed me for “not explaining” or “withholding information” when I had told him I was having suicidal thoughts and was explaining myself the best you can when you are manic. I heard him swear to the nurses and speak down to them. He kept me on a low dose of medication and made no changes despite seeing me get worse. He then sent me home from the hospital after I was not improving, simply because he thought if I slept in my own bed that would help me. My family are not medical professionals. I felt very pushed out of the hospital, even by the nurses who suggested why not go home if my parents are working from home. I eventually got worse at home and had to go back to the hospital AGAIN. This time is seems Dr. Rasiah Paramsothy gave up and I was instead appointed to Dr. Mahdi Memarpour who immediately made changes to my medication which drastically improved my condition. Dr. Mahdi Memarpour also suggested I get a nurse to check up on me when I was discharged. I was given no support under Dr. Rasiah Paramsothy. People make mistakes, I understand. But Dr. Rasiah Paramsothy blamed a manic patient who tried their best to articulate that they were experiencing mania and suicidal thoughts for his inaction.

Dr. Paramsothy spoke down to me during our visit and made me feel like I didnt deserve help during my mental health emergency. He refused to adjust my current medication and prescribed me an additional medication instead. That medication caused me long term harm. He misread my chart and blamed me for it. I'm sure hes not a bad doctor all the time but when he gets frustrated he is mean. I have not seen a mental health professional since seeing him a year ago because I am so afraid of another doctor making me feel small and not respecting my opinion. I will not return to south lake hospital for a mental health emergency again for fear of seeing him again.
