THE VERY WORST! He did a standard bunion surgery on March 23rd of this year, and inserted a screw that was too long and constantly irritated the navicular bone as it butted against it. This led to FIVE MONTHS of my wearing a boot, , pain every time aI put my foot down,
and bed rest with so little walking, I could go only to the bathroom and kitchen.. the idea that he would instruct an 83 year old woman to be at bed rest for so long goes against everything he learned at med school. He initially tried to blame the victim ,saying it was my osteoporosis. I immediately took a DEXA test and learned my bones were significantly stronger than average. He then made other excuses and finally threw up his hands, saying he didn’t know how to fix it, He recommended I stay in the boot until October, with very little walking.

Another surgeon at another hospital removed the hardware this morning, and assured me I would be doing all the skiing and hiking I did before Deland got ahold of me.

I am recovering from the second operation and am out a great deal of money, as neither surgeon accepts Medicare. I have endured five months of being crippled. I am so angry, not only about losing five months of my life, but his craven lies and disgusting defense attempts.
NEVER USE HIM FOR ANYTHING!

11/1/2019 Dr Deland preformed a 5 hour surgery on my left foot. He basically reconstructed its entirety.
His knowledge, caring and professionalism is unparalleled. He is a wonderful surgeon, and a great person.
Thank you Dr Deland

I expected a cold, uncaring, boiler plate meeting with Dr. Deland because he’s HSS, renowned, doctor to the famous and the rich, which I am not. Instead what I found was a warm professional who treated ME, not my x-rays, not my age but me. He didn’t come into the examining room with a prescribed solution but he actually spoke with me, not at me. So refreshing and welcome.

Of course, all that would be nice but insufficient if he wasn’t very smart and experienced. I trusted his knowledge and expertise.

Each and every person I had contact with when I saw Dr. Deland was equally personable and warm, never speaking by rote.

I will follow Dr. Deland’s recommendation regarding my problem because, after meeting and talking with him, I trust it is the best path forward.

Stay away! This doctor left me crippled and in chronic pain. I think he is letting his students do his surgeries.
Never have surgery on Wednesday. Appears that this is when the residents get to do the work!

He a butcher. He butchered my foot, took bone from other areas of my body. I would say he left me with 50+stiches and my foot has been in constant pain. I am thankful I can just about walk. DO NOT USE HIM. He is a very insensitive person.

Stay far away! I would not be surprised to find out that Dr Deland allows students to do the less challenging surgeries( bunions , hammer toes and neuromas). I had a neurectomy "done" by Deland which resulted in a Hematoma, DVT and ultimately Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy . Dr Deland allowed this painful outcome spread to both feet and legs as he refused to act immediately and instead was denying the problem. When I questioned him about prescribing Neurotin, he asked me " What is that?" Seriously , Dr Deland? Three years later,
this surgery has left me crippled and in chronic pain. Dr Deland and HSS have taken me out of the Game!!!

The famous Dr. Deland butchered my foot. For a bunion removal he killed a mouse with an elephant gun. DO NOT GO TO HIM!

He is excellent. Everything he told me has occurred and the HSS physical therapy is equally as excellent as Dr. deland.

Office staff was amazing. I even got a call.... Not an email response, from an email on a Saturday morning while she was on vacation. Her response when I thanked her was "this is my job! I make sure you don't have to worry about things" Dr. Deland took his time and did not rush any discussion I have had, even getting on phone when I called late in the day to ask questions. HHS for my surgery was amazing as well. So glad I decided to see Dr. Deland

Arrogant overrated doctor. My pre-surgery consult. was rushed and uninformative. Yes if he were so technically adept I suppose his lofty demeanor may be justified, but I was not impressed with his skill set or staff so so did not use him for my issue. Some surgeons think every nail needs a hammer and go overboard with their recommendations. No thank you.
