Had we Not Gotten a 2nd Opinion before letting Dr. Hassard perform Cataract Surgery on my husband, God Only Knows what would have happened.
Dr. Khimdas did what ended up a VERY Complicated Surgery on my husband's Cataracts.

I would like to thank the staff in Welland as well as in Cobourg for your courteous help.
A special thanks to Doctor Hassard. I have worn glasses almost my entire life, for the first time I am glasses free. I am seeing things as if for the first time, it's a blessing. Thank you so very much. William Przyk , Niagara, now in Bancroft.

I was referred by a well respected ophthalmologist to Dr. Hassard for laser surgery. Dr. Hassard was gruff, rude and dismissive. He looked in my eye for a few seconds then said you need an optometrist, then left me sitting there. I would never go back.

Arrived early to my consultation to see about 5 other people in the waiting room ahead of me. I was informed by the receptionist that Dr. Hassard was running late and would take up to an hour to arrive. I went to get lunch and came back within 30mins to find all the other patients had left but the Dr. was there. He remarked as though I was late to my appointment even though he wasn't even in his own office. He then told me he didn't know why his office had accepted my referral because he doesn't deal with my specific issue. After spilling his briefcase on the floor he performed several quick tests/examinations, seemingly out of order. When I appeared to be struggling with them he noted that maybe he should not have dilated my pupils and blinded me with the examination light before giving me a colour recognition test.

The guy has been great with me. Helpful staff. No waiting once in his office. Explains everything. I have a large cataract and he explained the problems and risk. I really can’t see out of my right eye and my operation is tomorrow. So far I’d give him and his staff the highest grades possible.

My surgery came up sooner than expected due to people not wanting to have surgery because of Covid. So very pleased with the helpfulness of Dr. Hassard and his staff. Surgery was quick, efficient and full vision restored. Follow-up was also kindly carried out. I would highly recommend Dr. Hassard for cataract removal. I am thrilled with the marvellous vision that I have now.

This comment is written about my treatment by Dr. Hassard in March 2019. I am surprised by some of the negative reviews that I have read here. I went to the ER at St. Cath with a note from my GP telling them that he could not help me. The chief of emergency services happened to be on-duty and he diagnosed the pain in my eye and other symptoms as glaucoma. He told me that Dr. Hassard would be in the hospital in four hours so I waited. Dr. Hassard arrived, examined me, refined the diagnosis to "open field glaucoma," gave me some prescriptions to reduce the inflammation of my eyeball and relieve the pain, and told me to call his office in Welland to schedule laser surgery. I did as he told me and about a week later I had the laser surgery to facilitate drainage of the fluid from the insides of both eyes. I have not had any problems since then. I believe that Dr. Hassard saved the sight in my right eye.
