She is a cold, distant person with no empathy whatsoever. She "treated my son, before he committed suicide, and was totally incapable of communicating with him-or with me and my husband. I could do her job with more compassion and empathy and maybe save a life

Dr. Martina Power took five minutes to decide she knew me. What she didn't consider was that she was telling a psych major something I knew to be false. She said that the only way for someone to get adequate care for a psychotic break was to stay in hospital for weeks, possibly months. She said that at any time, any place, for any reason , the police could pick someone up and force an admission. She said that no out patient therapy would be effective. What a liar!
Plus a friend was in her care. He got doped, vs treated and ended up being misdiagnosed, mishandled to the point where he ended up committing a crime. When he was under her direct supervision. IMO it was her fault!! She hsould be drummed outof the profession of psychiatry!

Dr. Power has been my psychiatrist for almost 10 years. She took me on when I was having a psychotic episode. Right from day one of my treatment, she has listened to everything I have told her and made me feel that I truly know myself and my own body. Since the fist time she prescribed my medication regime, one that actually worked after years of other failed attempts from different doctors, she has allowed me space to give my opinion about treatment. I am currently almost off of my psychotropic medication, and have not had a reoccurring episode since 2007. She is always available to me and willing to work around my schedule for appointments. I think she is the best psychiatrist I have met in my long experience with the mental health system.

She tortured me for personal revenge due to me serving someone she knew coffee which somehow triggered a diabetic shock.

This dr. was brutal! She was assigned to me when I was checked into Grand River hospital because my depression had gotten so severe and I was cutting myself. She formed her opinion of me right away and never changed her mind. Even after speaking with my other family members that vouched for me. I saw her every day for 3 weeks and she proceeded to belittle me and tell me there was nothing wrong with me and I should just stop feeling sorry for myself. She told me I might have ADD but that was about it. After spending hundreds of dollars (at her suggestion) to see a psychologist to find out if I had ADD. She told me there was nothing else she could do for me and refused to change my meds even though I had been on them for years and they had stopped working. I went to see a diff dr. and he diagnosed me with bipolar depression and I have been fine ever since. This was after several suicide attempts. And now I can't even believe that this dr almost killed me!

Dr Power is the most compassionate doctor I have ever met. She cured my depression and her follow up care was exceptional. She is a first class doctor. I would recommend anyone reading this site who has had a similar experience to post their comments. The negative comments posted here are by no means a true reflection of the work of this wonderful doctor

This Doctor saved my life! I had tried every medication going without relief. Yes, she first tried some medication, and when that also didn't work, suggested Electric Shock Treatment. I had 6 treatments and after the first two, my husband noticed major improvements. I have been depression free for almost 6 years now and will be forever grateful for a second chance. Thankyou Dr.Power and staff!
