We came to Dr. Sherbahn after a year and a half with another RE and two different clinics (FCI and Vios). We had IUIs, 2 IVF retrievals, 2 fresh transfers, and 1 frozen, and none worked. The worst part about the process was that no one could ever tell us what the issue was - they just kept saying I'm sure it will work, which is nice, but not super helpful. We decided to take a break and I started doing fertility acupuncture (highly recommend). After about 8 months, we decided to get another opinion and do 1 more retrieval. My acupuncturist recommended Dr. Sherbahn because she had seen success in her other patients.
When we first went to see him, we were just impressed with his honesty. He was a complete straight shooter. He gave us the statistics of success, asked questions, and provided his honest opinion as to why it might not be working and whether it would work with them. He was confident in his clinic and his success, and after being with our other doctor who never added much concrete evidence except generic optimism, it was refreshing. In my first hysteroscopy, he found two fibroids that the other clinic had never told me about - and he said they were not new. Finally a reason that might explain why it wasn't working! He said they were not worth it to take out, but he explained that could be the cause. We proceeded with a retrieval in which I got twice the amount of eggs and 3 times the amount of embryos than my 2 other retrievals. We did a frozen transfer after PGS testing and are now pregnant! We believe it is a miracle.
I also loved the nursing staff (Diane and Tina especially!) - the wait time was almost always less than 10 mins, I saw the same nurses who recognized me, and I felt confident that they always knew what they were talking about. They were helpful and just as excited and passionate about seeing success. They all gave me a big hug when I had my first ultrasound!
Even if it hadn't worked, as I told him after, the differences between the 2 clinics were pretty stark. With this clinic I felt like an individual, while the others I felt like I was in a cattle call and just another patient. Thank you to Dr. Sherbahn and the entire staff!!

Wow I am glad I am reading some of these comments! I will not be going to Dr. Sherbahn. I received terrible phone service after inquiring online. Someone called me back the same day which was nice and quick. This is the very first time I was talking to anyone at this clinic and the nurse got on the phone and said, "So you are looking to do IVF." (Totally assuming, I had never mentioned anything about IVF). I stated that the reason I am calling is because I would like to set up a long distance phone consultation. She said, "Well we will have to see about that because there is a certain distance you have to be." Okay, fine. I told her I am looking to get a second opinion about our situation and she very rudely said, "we do not do second opinions here." Well if you look on their website, it states long distance phone consultations are for, "Couples who have seen a specialist and want a second opinion about their case" (I just pulled that right from the website). I told her, "okay" and "goodbye." I am sick of working with inconsiderate and money hungry providers. Little do they know they lost a good patient that has money to spend on fertility and I would have been willing to drive there for it. Disappointing and very rude. I have yet to hear back from them in regards to my email about this situation. My rating is for the clinic and not necessarily for Dr. Sherbahn's services as I was so turned off by the clinic before even stepping foot there. I am not one to put negative ratings online, but I look to ratings as help to determine a good doctor and fertility is not cheap so I hope I can help someone to make a better choice.

Dr. Sherbahn was our fourth IVF doctor and our real last hope at starting a family. We had been to two doctors at FCI in Chicago and one at Northwestern. None gave us the type of information and statistics we received from Dr Sherbahn. The staff and nurses were very friendly and you always see the same nurse so you don't feel like a number here. My nurse called me back and responded to my emails promptly. I also liked the fact that Dr Sherbahn performed all of the major procedures which is not the case at the other clinics. We really felt guided and I trusted the information that we were given. If you are looking to use an egg donor I would highly recommend Dr Sherbahn as he has his own donors "in-house". You don't have to go through all of the trouble of finding an egg donor bank and any extra hassle. I was very happy with Dr Sherbahn and his staff and am now pregnant!

I would like to preface this by saying that I have NEVER posted a negative review online. But I have chosen to share my experience with Dr. Sherbahn’s clinic to warn others. Dr. Sherbahn is very knowledgeable; however, we were completely unsuccessful with his IVF protocol. I am not typically the kind of person who gets wrapped up in my doctor having to have good bedside manner, but I will never forget Dr. Sherbahn’s comments to us right after our retrieval. He came in to speak to my husband and I and simply stated “it was a disaster.” We both looked at each other thinking he was kidding and then he repeated himself with a straight face and no explanation, “your retrieval was a disaster.” I remember thinking, what happened?! When we realized that he wasn’t kidding, we had to pull information out of him as to what actually happened. He was callous and nonchalant and we were completely devastated.

We then had to beg and plead to get a phone consult scheduled with him to discuss our failed cycle as his nurse was putting us off for weeks. Finally we convinced her to get us on the schedule for a 7:30am call and on the day of the call, no one ever called. We had to call the office and track him down. He finally called back and was completely rude and ignorant and told us to give up. We were then charged for a full office visit on our credit card that they had on file. A seven minute phone call was billed like an hour long in-person office visit. Ridiculous.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, they charge patients for EVERYTHING upfront as they collect your credit card information on day one. Having cycled with other clinics, I knew that monitoring appointments were not billed as office visits, but rather labs/ultrasounds so I was never charged. Dr. Sherbahn makes money any way that he can so he codes his monitoring visits as nurse appointments so he can collect your full copay each time you go. What makes matters worse is that he collected my copay amount, but my insurance was actually covering some of the charges so he was over collecting at each appointment. Then the billing team waits until all the charges for the cycle are cleared through insurance before they reimburse you.

Days leading up to a retrieval they charge your credit card for PGS testing on the embryos even though they don’t even know if you will have an embryo to biopsy by Day 5. So our credit card was charged for several thousand dollars. After the failed retrieval I had to call over and over again to ask for a refund and it took almost a month until they finally mailed a check to my home (they couldn’t just refund the charge to my credit card).

The best (or worst) part of this whole story is the fact that during the week of my retrieval the clinic’s computer systems were mysteriously “down.” I wondered, how they were looking at my medical records if they had no computers, but I didn’t get too wrapped up in that issue at the time. Fast forward two months and we get a letter in the mail indicating that the clinic’s computer systems were hacked and malware was installed on their system during the week of my retrieval. My husband’s and my social security numbers, names, dates of birth, addresses, email addresses, medical records and diagnosis were compromised. We thought, ok, this has happened with other businesses like Target, Home Depot, etc. and they paid for a year of credit protection for their customers. We believed that this was a reputable clinic that would take appropriate action to protect us. NOT the case!!! They offered NO credit protection and simply told us to “register a fraud alert with the three credit bureaus.” So we called the clinic to see what they could do to help protect us from identity theft only to have the gatekeeper shut us down and indicate that the doctor and his attorneys had given this a lot of thought and they have chosen not to assist patients in protecting their information.

Dr. Sherbahn clearly cares about how much money he can make and how much money he can save by screwing over his patients at every turn.

Dr. Sherbahn is the reason we are having a baby. His expertise is unparalleled and his advice was always sound. This was an extremely emotional and physically draining process, but Dr. Sherbahn and the nurses who work in the Chicago office made us feel like we were their top priority. Unlike most fertility clinics, here you have a dedicated nurse who answers all of your emails/phone calls (Diane was amazing, but all their nurses are exemplary). She was just as excited as we were when we found out we were pregnant. You will not find this kind of personal touch at any other clinic in the Chicagoland area.

I found Dr. Sherbahn to be backwards and sexist. I do not recommend him, despite all the "girls" he's worked with

Dr Sherbahn and his team will make you feel like getting YOU pregnant is their only goal. Never did I feel like I was just another patient. Anytime I called, I was able to speak to a nurse. No leaving messages and waiting for a call back. Dr Sherbahn was honest with me from the beginning and provided invaluable trust and guidance for my IVF process. And now I'm pregnant. Just like he told me I would be!

Personal service with care and attention that fertility struggles require. My first (unsuccessful) cycle was at another clinic where I felt like a number and in the end we felt uninformed and disappointed. I felt truly cared for at AFCC. The whole staff is wonderful and support each other all for the sake of their patients.
