He was a bit condescending, seemed uninterested in what I was saying and I agree with another reviewer that he was nodding off. The combination of his desk being so far from the couch, the tons of cluttered papers and junk in his office and just his personality make it uncomfortable to be in his office. Not to mention his office is in his musty basement. I was relieved the door to the waiting room was propped one day because it was particularly humid and smelled like mildew. I stopped seeing him as soon as I could find another doctor.

The doctor should not be a medically practicing physician who cares for patients, especially concerning psychiatry. My elderly mother was assigned to him at Sibley. He prescribed medications that she was allergic to and continued to double the dosage after I complained about his care management. He commented to me that it wasn't his fault that she preferred to lay in her urine and feces. He also stated loudly that he could not believe that her long-time leading primary doctor referred her to one of his leading collegues for outpatient therapy over him. I immediately notified the Hospital's top leadership accordingly and took my mother out of the hospital that had ALWAYS provided the best care to my family. This physician's actions were beyond harmful, irresponsible, and negligent. The patients' families were constantly communicating out of concern about his practices, and were confused to find such a physician at Sibley.

His office is out of his dank basement. I waited 2 hours to see him for less than 10 minutes since he doesn't do appointments. He seemed uninterested in anything I had to say. Needless to say I won't be going back to see him.

He looked like he was nodding off when I was telling him my psychiatric background. When he suggested we change my meds that I had been taking for four years because he thought they weren't working for me because I said I was still experiencing agitation, I realized he hadn't even been listening to me. I had told him that I had experienced agitation only when I was on Welbutrin, which I was no longer on. Therefore, I was no longer agitated. Then he repeatedly asked me if I could just take Seroquel after I had told him several times that Seroquel wasn't the right drug for me. Then he looked at his clock, looked at the ceiling, and refused to look me when I told him how scary it was to switch psychiatric medications because of the risks of cognitive issues, weight gain, and memory issues involved. After I expressed my hesitation at switching drugs, he repeatedly told me that he may not be the right doctor for me.

Dr. Kiernan helped me get a prescription filled when I was on vacation and forgot my medicine. He was on vacation as well and returned my call promptly and called the pharmacy. He is good-natured and courteous.

I think Dr. Kiernan is rude. He made me very uncomfortable. In my opinion, he is in the wrong profession.
