Dr. Stefan Schovanek
Ratings for Dr. Stefan Schovanek
Dr. Schovanek was my psychiatrist for 10 years.
He was always very tuned in to my issues, a very good listener, and not one to treat with multiple prescription medications. I was grateful to be his patient.

Based on my experience & the standard of expertise & care that Dr. Schovanek afforded my father who suffers from dementia & the level of assistance he ultimately provided my family 1 star is far too generous.
This guy (IMHO) is a bumbling incompetent clown, who was seldom available & when he was he routinely botched important things we were counting on, like assessing whether or not my father's dementia was worsening.
During at least 2 assessments, when Dr. Schovanek would check to see if my father was aware of his surroundings, the month, day & year, etc. with great ease my father managed to hoodwink him by reading this information off calendars that he had strategically placed around the kitchen area (with the days x’d off). On the last occasion (Dr. Schovanek being completely oblivious to this fact) I informed him as to what my father was doing, Dr. Schovanek then removed one calendar but did not check to see if there were others (which there were).
Do yourself a favour, in regards to Dr. Schovanek, don't waste your time. My recommendation is to keep looking (for someone who is competent).

Dr. Schovanek took care of my mother for three years, and my family and I all found him to be a careful, kind and compassionate doctor, who went out of his way to keep us all informed and supported. Before moving in with us, my mother had been treated by a well-known doctor at one of the best teaching hospitals in the country, and the care Dr. Schovanek provided was as good if not better than the care she had received there. Alzheimer's is a terrifying and confusing disease, and we all felt grateful to Dr. Schovanek for his guidance and support.

Does not respond to requests for meetings with family or guardians. Does not communicate well with patients, staff, or family.

Made a diagnosis without benefit of accurate medical history as patient was in hospital and delirious. Highly resistant to speaking with family to either obtain relevant diagnostic information or to explain his diagnosis. Prescribed medication at odds with updated diagnosis of other specialists. Made medical crisis infinitely worse due to inexplicable animus towards family.

Should not be a Geriatric Psychiatrist. Put my father on dangerous medications that weren't needed...over medicating him. Wouldn't listen to family members.

Dr. Stefan has an assistant who is a mean, cruel, dishonest woman and should never be allowed to see a patient alone without Dr, S S present. Her therapy skills are cut to the chase and ignore the deails.

Dr Schovanek - should not be a Geriatric Psychiatrist. Same experience as others - didn't discuss treatment options...diagnosis was 'off'......over - medicated the patient....

I will be generous and give dr. schovanek a rating of one. He is an arrogant lying incompetent. He does not understand the medications that he prescribes or he just does't care. He caused me serious harm .
