It's true that he's never on schedule. He is the only doc I wait for b/c he is such a gifted healer and all with his hands. I call his secretary an hour before my scheduled visit to see what time I should come, allowing for his perpetual tardiness. He could schedule fewer patients, he once told me, but he doesn't want to say no to anyone. Those of us who know and love him are willing to wait.

It's funny, Dr. Toerge is excused for being unable to keep a schedule due to the fact that he spends an hour with each patient, but he schedules in advance an hour with each patient. There shouldn't be any difficulty staying on the schedule. Everyone does it. Yesterday I left Dr. Toerge's office 3 hours and 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment. By left, I mean walked out, because this doctor is ok, but his rareness is what leads go his reputation. If he got his scheduling and patient visits in order he would be jusI another doctor. I tried to schedule a follow up appointment when I arrived at his office, and was told there was nothing available for the remaining 5 months of the year, and they were not scheduling 2015. After my incredible wait, without an apology I wouldn't dream of going back.

Waiting more than an hour each time, with an incredibly rude nurse, "you're not going to wait, are you?", put me off the great Dr. Toerge. If it weren't for the delays and the staff I would say he was a pretty great doctor, but staffing and punctuality is a pretty basic thing. When your patients are in severe, constant pain the idea of keeping them waiting over an hour on ever visit is really unconciounable. If he didn't want me as a patient, he shouldn't have scheduled the first visit. After that he just wasted my time, without any meangingul continuity of care and six months between visits. After the second visit and just walked out, pointing out that if they can call me at the last minute to cancel, why can't they call me to tell me he is running late? I was sorely tempted to bill the man for my time, and surprisingly I bill for more an hour than he does. So my time is actually valuable when you waste it doctor. There are other doctors in dc that show up on time. Go to them.

Don't be put off by probably having to wait. Dr. Toerge schedules an hour to be with you and is totally present to you every minute of that time, and he is worth waiting for. Being a physiatrist, he is gifted in helping to bring balance and strength and flexibility to the body, but I once spent my entire hour asking questions so I could get the best understanding possible of the causes of my problem and what I could expect and plan for going forward. My mind needed that so I could worry less, and Dr. Toerge respected and attended to that need. I recommend him without reservation.

Toerge is amazing. he systematically homes in on the source of the problem, treats it himself, and provides excellent advice on at-home exercises.

A truly wonderful and gifted doctor who I have been seeing for close to 15 years for my spinal problems. He never gave up on me and I am finaly well and can walk due to his treatments.

Dr. Toerge is extremely gifted. As mentioned by others, he is so popular that he is booked months in advance and his schedule is jammed. But I call ahead to see whether/how late he is running and it works out... and every time, it is well worth the wait. A relative of mine is a physiatrist and referred me to Dr. Toerge, saying that he is a truly gifted practictioner and my experience over about 9-10 years has borne that out. It is very hard to get an appointment however, so for chronic/serious conditions that might be a concern.

I have unfortunately had to see a lot of different doctors over the past few years. I have never left a doctor's office feeling as wonderful as I did after seeing Dr. Toerge. I felt listened to, validated, and left with a plan of action. My visit was extremely thorough..2.5 hours long. He was patient, very kind, and extremely knowledgeable. The only negative is that because he's in such high demand it's hard to get appointments.

Although Dr. Toerge is extremely talented, he is so moody and has fired patients because they got in the way of his busy schedule. There was a time when he aided patients who had emergencies but all of that seems to have come to a screaching halt. He is former medical director of National Rehabilitation Hospital and still has a title at Washington Hospital Center but he is in a small office at Georgetown University Hospital and it takes at least three months to get an appointment, assuming you call on the 1st of the month.
