When my husband broke his collar bone in several places, Dr. Bouliane told us that if he had had his way, he would not have done surgery on it, just left it to heal on its own. When we asked him why, he said it was because my husband is 67 years old. Shocked, we asked him why he would say that. His reply was that my husband is 67 years old. Obvious ageism. We are both extremely active with golf, tennis, dancing, cycling, hiking and weight training. Age does not mean a thing anymore and treatment should be based on the individuals needs, not his age. And now we find, that even with surgery, the healing process is slower than this doctor anticipated. What would have happened without the surgery. Seems to be an excellent surgeon, but ageism is a form of discrimination, and that is something that should not be part of the medical system especially as older adults stay more active. I hope this excellent surgeon changes his attitude. His knowledge of his surgery is excellent but his knowledge of is patients needs to improve.

Very arrogant and smug. Zero confidence in him. By far the worst surgeon I’ve dealt with. Would not recommend to anyone.

He was great, he explained everything in detail and was extremely professional but approachable,. I did not feel like I couldn’t ask questions and he was forthcoming with the answers and suggestions. My leg has never felt better and I barely have a scar after three operations. He was very kind and considerate.

Dr. M Bouliane is an amazing surgeon,,has wonderful bedside manner, explicit in explanation of what was done and what’s to follow. I had a very bad experience with a shoulder dislocation, and was given the run around previous to seeing Dr. Bouliane.. he recognized the severity of my rotator cuff injuries and promptly got me a surgery date,,finally someone cared!! Even though he wasn’t sure he could fix my shoulder, he was successful,,I am forever greatful and have nothing but good to say about this Doctor . I would highly recommend him.,, he is brilliant!

Had an accident at the beginning of August where amongst other things, I sustained a completely severed humurus. The UofA ER surgeon splinted my arm with hopes the bones would reunite and fuse without surgery. Ina follow up appointment, last week, I was referred by the original surgeon back to the hospital, for a reduction and fixation. By chance Dr. Bouliane was available and performed the surgery. He met with me prior to the surgery in the OR prep area and answered all my questions, provided in depth surgery details and explained the potential risks to my radial nerve, and discussed graft options (to which I was asked my preferences). The surgery went awesome - from my perspective anyway - no radial nerve damage, no hip graft needed, healing pneumothorax didn't tear, and no nerve block needed. Dr. Bouliane came to visit me after the surgery and discussed post op plans and recovery strategies. He stressed the importance of following the plan and for optimum success he was very particular with certain aspects of the plan. Overall this surgeon helped me feel that I was an active participant in this whole process. His credentials as an upper extremity specialist speak for themselves and so I can't be happier to have 'by chance' received his care. This is a professional I highly recommend.

Very good surgeon but pompous with his patients. Don't dare ask questions or challenge him in any way. His response is rude, infantile and aggressive.
