I was referred to Dr. Stifelman by my personal urologist because of his special expertise in robotic surgery. I underwent a single port, robot assisted radical prostatectomy by Dr. Stifelman one and a half weeks ago. I stayed in the hospital less than 24 hours and never had major pain after the operation. I took minimal pain medication with my last plain Tylenol five days after the operation. The urinary catheter was removed two days ago, which was exactly one week after the operation. I know that a period of incontinence is a significant potential issue with radical prostatectomy, so that I find myself very relieved to be basically continent at this point, going through one “just in case” pad per day with minimal soiling. Dr. Stifelman told me before the operation that every patient is sacred to him. Thank G-d for this doctor.

I can't say enough to describe how great Dr. Stifelman is, as a physician, surgeon, and especially as a human being. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Canada and elected to undergo robotic prostatectomy in the US because of the long waiting time in Canada. Shortly after requesting an appointment with Dr. Stifelman, he conducted a very friendly half-hour zoom consultation with me, and gave a thorough description of my condition with detailed explanations of all my previous tests and scans. I was totally confident I would be in the right hands, and my surgery was scheduled soon after, which went flawlessly. Dr. Stifelman checked on me after the surgery to tell how it went, and saw me again a week later to personally give me the okay to go back home. His friendly staff was always available when needed. I received many recommendations for Dr. Stifelman prior to the surgery, but I also did my own research, and met with another highly recommended surgeon. However, I chose Dr. Stifelman without hesitation, and truly believe that he is the best choice as a urologist and surgeon.

Dr. Stifelman saved my mother’s life. He led a team of surgeons in a 7+ hour incredibly complicated operation that, when described to me seemed like a Hail Mary attempt to prolong her life. She is now recovering nicely, with what I hope is years to live. My every interaction with Dr. Stifelman was wonderful. He was kind, caring, compassionate, reassuring (against all odds I thought), and obviously a surgeon with extraordinary skill. I am a surgeon myself, and know many hundreds of doctors both personally and professionally. And I honestly feel that he is one of the two or three most impressive physicians that I have ever met. Truly extraordinary, and I feel so lucky we were able to find him and have him help us with this awful disease.

Lastly, we were delighted with the Professionalism of his office staff, particularly Clara and Helene, who organized and communicated with us wonderfully, helping to arrange for the outside testing and consultations needed to make sure that she was healthy enough to undergo this major operation.

I literally can’t say enough great things about Dr. Stifelman and the wonderful team he has assembled.

Michael Stifelman, MD who is Chair and Professor, Department of Urology at HUMC is by far the most thorough urologist in the country, going above and beyond established protocol. My first encounter as a patient with Dr Stifelman was 15 years ago at NYU where he performed a very successful robotic/laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (with minimal pain during recovery) after which it was established that my remaining solitary kidney had a potential problem and would have to be monitored by a strict protocol. After 6 years of successful follow up with Dr Stifelman I switched Urologists to one much closer to home, having selected an extremely qualified local Urologist who continued monitoring my condition and after many years gave me the all clear for my solitary kidney. Thereafter my local Urologist retired and I began my search for a new Urologist, during my research I discovered that Dr Stifelman had switched his affiliation from NYU to HUMC where I reconnected as his patient. Immediately Dr Stifelman established a new baseline for my solitary Kidney and the scans showed that all was well with a follow up to occur in one year.
Dr Stifelman took a proactive approach by initiating the one-year follow up this past November. Arriving in the mail were prescriptions for the appropriate scans, after which it was discovered that the situation with my solitary kidney had changed in one year after 15 years of stability. Final result was that Dr Stifelman recently completed a very successful robotic/laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (again with minimal pain during recovery). Being back under the care of Dr Stifelman has been a total life changing experience, Michael is by far the best in class for kidney surgery and I find myself once again extremely fortunate to be under his care.

I have nothing good to say about my experience with Dr. Stifelman and his staff. The office is a factory devoid of any warmth. After surgery, I could not sit for 2 months. When I went for an office visit and wanted feedback on my condition, I was greeted with " see the wound Dr." I later called up the office as I was having pain which was affecting my walking. This was on aThursday and I begged for an appointment. They told me to come in THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY. I ended up in the emergency room that night with a severe bacterial infection and was in a rehab facility for 6 weeks, getting infusions 3 times a day. Is this the sign of a caring doctor? I would never recommend this facility to anyone.

Dr.Stifleman was highly recommended to us by an acquaintance. After seeing two other doctors , both offering different opinions about the course of action my husband should take to remove the tumor on his kidney, we knew within a very short time we had found the perfect doctor for my husband’s surgery. He took the the time to explicitly explain what the pre and post surgery would entail. He answered all our questions without losing patience when we asked the same ones over and over again so that we could feel reassured. He is a kind, caring, and compassionate doctor with exceptional skills- hence why there are so many 5 star ratings.

Dr . Stifleman was the first physician I interviewed for my prostatectomy. I thank god each day for his brilliant skill and god for sending me to him. 20 months out I am cancer free. There are no words to describe my gratefulness to him. You will not find a more competent caring individual. May god continue to bless him for all the people he will help.

After learning that I had a small mass on my kidney that was suggestive of renal carcinoma, I researched nephrologists in the metropolitan area. Dr. Stifelman was recommended by several doctors as being the best.
When I met with Dr. Stifelman I was impressed with his warm demeanor. As he reviewed my scans he explained that my mass was located in a difficult position but he felt he could remove it doing a robot assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectectomy. That's exactly what I was hoping for and he did it successfully sparing a good portion of my kidney. I am grateful for Dr. Stifelman's outstanding surgical skills and impressed with his natural ability to relate to his patients in a calm and comforting manner. I was fortunate in that my renal mass was benign but we couldn't discern that without excision. The referring doctors were right-- Dr. Stifelman is simply THE BEST !!!
