There are very few doctors who will sit with you as long as you need and actually drag your concerns out of you. I have been seeing Dr. Kotzan for 16 years now and have at times paid out-of-pocket to avoid having to change doctors (when I had student insurance). My personal experience is that she is thorough and personable and does not throw prescriptions at every problem. A year ago, I had a CT result that was unexpected. Dr. Kotzan had multiple radiologists, including the head of the department, look at it to verify. She definitely goes above and beyond. If that makes her less punctual, so be it.

Waited over an hour and a half and then her idea of a physical was to listen to my heart and take my blood pressure which the nurse before her already did. Rude, impersonal and quite hurtful with her curt remarks.

I was told when making the appt. to be prepared to wait up to an hour. I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes with no one in the waiting room but me. When she entered the room she said Hello, her name and bo handshake or any mention of being late. That is unheard of usually a Dr. will say thank you for waiting or at least acknowledge it. I sat in a chair next to her for 45 minutes while she went over my records from a previous Dr. page by page on her laptop and it felt like an interrogation. There was no emotion or real conversation coming from her. some comments were flat out rude such as where I work and she tells me "that drive is a curse: I only drive 25 minutes to work? After explaining several pain issues which were addressed extensively with specialists her response was "have you ever TRIED exercise? Sounded so degrading of course I would have exercised if I was not in so much pain. Very statistical. I am a person that wants a relationship with my internist not a name on pages in her laptop. After a total of 3-1/4 hours for a physical we walked out to a dark, empty office. My main feeling as I left was sorry I wasted your time and mine. This was the strangest experience I have ever had and will not return.

Have been a patient for three years now. I have experienced a 30 - 45 minute wait a couple of times. Front desk has always been good about telling me why she is running late; hospital rounds or other emergencies that come up. Usually, I am taken within 10 minutes of arrival. Dr. Kotzan is the most thorough doctor I've been to. She will spend 45 minutes with you, discussing issues that you are dealing with. Glad she's my doc!

I have seen her twice. Both times she arrived 2 hours past my appointment time. For my physical exam she was thorough. When I came to her with a problem she ran a few blood tests which came back negative and said "nothing is wrong". For my next appointment she called to cancel and reschedule; the new appt was for 2:45, I got a call at 2PM, can I come at 3:15, I said sure. On my ride over I got a call from her office, 'she's too backed up can you come in 5 days instead?" I said, "sure" new appt was for 2:30. Arrived at 2:30 and asked what are my chances of leaving the office by 4PM. Staff wasn't sure. I waited until 3:15 when the staff said "we better reschedule" now it's a full month later. Oh, and she was wrong. There was something wrong with me. It took finding a doctor who was willing to work a little harder and dig a little deeper to find it. Deeply disappointed with Dr. Kotzan. Her staff is great and is doing the best they can in a bad situation.

Dr. Kotzan is the most thorough doctor I have ever had. Albeit I agree with the punctuality issues, I consider that a lower priority than a doctor who pops in to listen to your heart, write a prescription, and leaves. It's all a personal preference.

Yes, you will probably wait if you go to see Dr. Kotzan, but when she sees you in the examining room, she will sit down and listen and answer all your questions. She will give you a thorough exam and will never rush. I have been her patient for 23 years. She is brilliant, compassionate, caring - an excellent doctor. I would not consider going to another internist because Dr. Kotzan is the best.
