21 years ago, Dr. Glen Van Arsdell performed the arterial switch surgery on me, due to my the birth defect I was born with. I am now finishing my second year of my Kin degree, graduated a pre-service firefighting program and have travelled all around the world. I have Dr. Glen Van Arsdell to thank for that.

He is truly the most amazing pediatric heart surgeon in the world. My son was born at 25 weeks gestation, had one of the most rare congenital heart defects; dr. V followed him for 5 month post birth until he was deemed front enough for surgery. He saved my baby boy. No one else could’ve done it. I am so grateful and pray everyday. I am so sad he left to the USA shortly after. You are ++missed glen… and you could be helping so many hopeless cases like my son. I beg you to return. You are a true hero to me ❤️!!

My son is now 18 going on 19. We ended up in Sick kids because my son had a mass on his heart that could not be made out by electrocardiogram or other tests. After 2 weeks in hospital
he ended up with Dr Van Arsdale in exploratory surgery. Turned out his pericardium was swollen a centimeter thick and squeezing his heart.. Dr Van Arsdale thought he would need a transplant but after doing several biopsies decided to remove the swollen pericardium like it was “skinning a fish”. Lucky us it worked and we are soooooooo grateful to have our son. He would have not lived otherwise. Thanks Doc! Wish you could have stayed in Canada.

Dr. Van Arsdell performed my first open heart surgery at 3 weeks old, I owe this man my life. He is the reason I can be with my family, meet my three younger siblings, play sports vigorously, and live my life to the fullest. We have kept in touch over the years, and whenever I was in Sick Kids and he had the time (as he is a very busy man) he always stopped to chat. He (along with the Hospital for Sick Children) will always have a special place in my heart for the care they gave me at each visit, and quality of care they give to each and every child and family that relies on them for support and hope. And just a quick update, I am currently in my second year of Health Sciences and eventually hope to go to medical school to become a paediatric cardiologist or a Cardiothoracic surgeon. Someday I hope to join him at the operating table, but as a doctor this time.
