(Rideau Clinic) I'm fairly certain I was just forgotten about. I waited an hour past my set appointment time, however when I asked for an update, I was seen immediately. Unfortunately. my reason for being there was non-emergent, so I was sent home "to heal on my own." I would've appreciated hearing that after having been seen by the first nurse.
I have been treated for a couple of different problems at the General Hospital, and have respect for the doctors. In fact most of them are very good, including the surgeons. However that is pretty much where it ends. As other people have mentioned, parking is just abysmal and expensive. Most times it takes as long to find a parking spot as it does to drive there. And it is always $13. whether you are there for a short or long time, very expensive. Next, a huge majority of the staff are French, some very hard to understand. I suspect that most patients who go tot he hospital are English, but the hiring obviously is slanted towards the French language. Third, not all, but most of the reception staff, other than the volunteers at the main doors are not in the least bit friendly. It is like they really just don't like their jobs. It is no different than being at Walmart or Canadian Tire....take a ticket, sit down and wait. And usually the wait is an hour or more. If your appointment is at 11:00am, you will likely not even be ushered in until noon, and then you wait again. I have waited 2 hours for a scheduled appointment. Overall the worst hospital in Ottawa in my opinion.
amazing reception team, they truly are some of the best ever. Friendly, kind, informative. They do their best considering the stress of their job and the volume of patients. The walk - in actually has good signage too - people complain that others get seen before them even when they take a number but if you read the signs its clear that if they're getting an allergy shot, or just seeing a nurse they get to skip the line because the numbers are if you need to see a doctor. I think its a great walk in clinic, you're always seen quickly (i've never spent moe than 1.5 horus there) and compared to other walk in clinics ive been to (4+ hours minimum) this is great. RECEPTIONISTS THERE ARE MAGNIFICENT and really helped me get the care I needed.
If you need to get tested for STI's don't go here. My boyfriend and I both have the clap, which we only just found out about because of my pregnancy. He got tested at the clinic maybe three months ago, and I was tested two years ago at the same place. They say that they'll call you if you have a positive result, which is obviously a lie, as neither of us were contacted. I am furious. What makes me even more mad is that, if untreated, chlamydia can cause infertility. I was also told by a doctor there that I had scabies (a highly contagious skin problem, not that they mentioned the highly contagious part) and spent over a hundred dollars to fix the problem. Not only did I have to shell out a lot of money, people around me also had to pay to do the treatment as well. Only problem is that I never had scabies, I had bed bugs from a lousy apartment. Just going on the fact that the city was reporting an epidemic for bed bugs at the time, I'm shocked that the doctor immediately diagnosed me with scabies, especially since I said it only started showing up after I moved apartments. If you want to be misdiagnosed, spend hundreds on drugs you don't need, and spend hours waiting to be seen then be my guest, but I'd recommend using another clinic.
The doctors thought I had strep or mono each time I visited, and had me tested for both 4 times each even after they kept coming back negative. After going back home to Toronto to a different doctor they diagnosed me immediately with something else which required surgery that same day. Each and every doctor I saw at this clinic missed this important diagnosis after I visited a couple times a week for a month. Would not recommend.
