Worst experience of my life! I would have been better off treating my mom myself. And I'm not a doctor. To me it's not about the urgency to heal but the urgency to push them out the front door and get that almighty dollar. Would never recommend this facility to anyone ! I say run in the opposite direction as fast as possible!!!

Horrible experience at the Emergency Dept. The intake nurse was completely uncaring and it was obvious she hated her job and dispised the people she was supposed to be serving. Arrived at 5:30 PM on 11/1 in extreme pain, passing a kidney stone. I told Nurse Ratchet that the pain was off the chart (I could barely stand). After not being called for hours, my wife went up a couple times asking her for my place in line. She told my wife "He's next...". As people kept getting called (other than me) my wife went back up and asked again and the intake nurse bit her head off... "He'll get called when he gets called" she snapped. Mind you, I was in some very serious pain... but we kept seeing people getting called that had no visible injuries, and were showing no outward signs of distress... meaning that whatever they were there for, it wasn't that bad... Their triage system (or perhaps just the intake nurse) need some work. From what I could tell, it wasn't much different from being at the DMV waiting for your place in line... no consideration for the urgency of your condition or pain level. It was hours of excruciating pain before I made it to the back, amd another hour before they administered pain meds. The cleanliness of the place also leaves much to be desired. In fairness, though, once I made it to the back, the staff was great. Very caring folks on the treatment side of the Emergency Dept... not so much at intake. They really need to train the staff on how to properly triage and prioritize cases. And, oh yeah, don't put someone at intake that hates her job and the people she is supposed to be there to help. Awful!

I have nothing but great things to say about Sentara Leigh Hospital. My mother has had 5 lengthy hospital stays during the last three months. The medical staff and supporting staff are very professional and caring. I've had numerous interactions with the doctors and found that they listened to me and communicated in a clear concise manner. This is one of the best hospitals in this area.

Sentara Leigh Hospital: For starters the parking is horrible here. I drove around for 15 minutes trying to find a place to park. Very few disabled parking spots. I ended up parking at the ER and walked to main hospital. (I am disabled). The staff and the doctor who came in were horrible. The doctor was cocky and rude. After my friends procedure nobody called his daughter to inform her on his status (She has power of attorney). She called over 5x and the doctor never called until he was being discharged. I was told to call a certain number when I arrived as my dad was discharged, which she was not informed of that either. Then I was told to call a number only to find out he was not in the discharge room. I had to wait almost a half hour before they brought him down. I pray I never have to go to this hospital. Unprofessional, rude, no communication, just all around a terrible hospital to go to.
