Twice now metro has almost killed my mother. First time was around six years ago, she went in twice, first time they brushed it off as a cold, second time an ear infection. Finally, after not getting any better she went to Fairview where they discovered it was viral meningitis. This time around, due to having lousy health insurance, she went in as she tripped on the stairs and gashed open her ankle. An x-ray determined in addition to the gash, her ankle was also fractured. They never flushed out the wound, and she kept going back every week as the wound kept bleeding and growing larger. Each time, she kept getting a different doctor, referred to a dermatologist, given a cream to rub on it, and different antibiotics. None of them actually did a culture of the wound, nor gave it more than a superficial look. The third doctor at metro stated that they should've stitched the wound from the get-go, but as too much time had passed, it was too late. Now it's an even larger gaping hole. After a month of going through metro 'experts', she finally decided to go to a different hospital as the wound just kept getting worse, the metro doctors brushing it off saying it'll heal, just be patient, and the smell of rot emanating from her ankle got to the point where it you could literally smell it several feet away from her. The doctor there did a culture, flushed the wound, and had to cut out over an inch deep of infected flesh. (They also advised her not to look down during that procedure) They discovered a blot clot had formed inside her ankle, which they said would have either caused her death or amputation of her foot. Now, she's back at the hospital right now, as they're determining if the infection has spread to her bone, thanks to Metro's incompetency.
It all depends what you need to be seen for. My kids have always gotten good service, but have only been seen in the ER a few times for injuries. However docs and nurses aree extremely overworked and it shows. My child got lidocaine and by the time the doc got back it had worn off and I had to make them give another injection. Wait times have improved, but are still pretty bad. Main campus is definitely the office to go to, cuz their satellite offices are horrible. Wait time is is non existent, but the staff are rude and on the dumb side. They seem mad that they have to work there something. Especially westpark office. The nurses didn't even know if some the sterilef fluids she was gonna use were any good and then ssaid she didn't care either way. And that's just something I overheard her say in regards to another patient's dressing change, while I was waiting to be seen in express care. The doctor also called me dumb and spoke to me like I was a child, I was extremely put off by her. She asked questions and when I tried to answer, she cut me off to ask more questions she wouldn't let me finish answering, then she just got up and walked out and never came back. I heard her talking to a nurse in the hall about me. When I said I can hear you they went into another room and shut the door. Never again. It's worth the drive and wait to see a doctor who cares
Highly underrated! Some of the best medical professionals in town! I don't think they have the best facilities but that's because they're not a for-profit hospital. I'm glad they spend money on the latest medical equipment instead of brand new beautiful exam rooms & waiting rooms!
Been here many times due to insurance limiting me to go to other places. The care that should be shown to patients is not shown within this establishment. They are also not the most intelligent. I do not say this to be rude, but I went to the doctor 4 times within less than 2 weeks and each one had a different diagnosis. Something needs to change.
Very satisfied with the outcomes of two recent surgeries. It is true I didn't have much contact with my surgeons before the surgery. In fact I didn't meet one of them until the morning of the surgery. That was OK since I didn't want yo be his friend. I wanted to walk and I am walking pain free for the first time in five years and that's good enough for me
My family had experience with MHMC's Cardiac care from open heart surgery to out patient medication and rehab. They have improved greatly from the 1990's and earlier. The care my family member received was good from the Surgeons, not great on communication after surgery. I had issue with not being able to speak with the Anestheologist after my person could not wake up for 6 days. The icu is busy as with all urban icu's lots of people. The nurses and staff were pretty good, overworked, average. They could use more help and maybe then with more staff, and funds, they would be able to be more patient oriented in lieu of just the medical side of recovery. Some of this hospital is great, some areas need much improvement, and lots more space.
I dislike this hospital very much. The ER doctors are over worked and it shows in the quality of their care. The do not control pain very well at all, slow response times all across the board, patient rooms not very clean, ER wait times are unbelievably long, long long!!!! Nurses are no better than the doctors, they too are over worked, I no longer go to this hospital and I do not recommend this place at all!!!
