Went to this hospital with chest pain. Was not seen by a nurse for almost 2 days. Was told in the emergency room I had a long history of heart failure. was told the issue was Sarcoidosis. I asked how but was given no reason for the diagnosis. Went to another hospital 2 weeks later with cheat pain again. Had a complete heart blockage that the Doctor told me I could have died.
I was in the CCU for 8 days and I thought the nursing care was excellent. The doctors who attended me were first rate If I have one criticism it would be that there is a lack of communication between departments. I say this because I even though I made it crystal clear to a doctor who wanted to perform a procedure on me that under no circumstances did I want this test done, I found that the word never got back to my cardio team. I am not the worlds best patient but I found the staff at AMC would do anything for you if you treated them with respect and had some patience. That said, even in the best of places that are as hectic as a hospital things do go wrong. Everyone needs an advocate when in any hospital.
It scares me when I must educate the doctors or remind them of what they need to do to care for my family member. When a nurse in ICU, yes ICU places a Latex Cath inside a patient that just suffered an Anoxic Brain Injury and send them into a 106 degree fever for two days, until a above par nurse working two doors down, asks me "isn't she severely allergic to Latex, room had signs posted, in her charts, doctors had no clue, kept blaming the 106 fever on her original injury, smart nurse had it removed after two days, her downstairs took weeks before it healed, fever went away immediately. So many other horror stories happened as well, too many to mention.
Never been treated so poorly. Everyone, from the parking attendant on up were rude and obnoxious people. The er railroaded people I know into treat they didn't need. They lied to them than backtracked after it was too late. If I'm on my deathbed let me die but NEVER take me to Albany Med!!!
