Depends on which location you visit. Waiting times at the main ER on 17th street is horrendous. If you are not having a heart attach then plan on waiting 4-6 hours to be treated. You can tell the rooms are not cleaned inbetween visitors. they might change the sheets but not much more. DO NOT GO TO THIS ER UNLESS ITS AN EMERGENCY YOU WILL GET SICK
With both my father having been diagnosised with Waldenstroms a very rare cancer and my mother with dementia, our family as well as my parents have received the best care possible. I have had multiple surgeries at both NHRMC and CFMH and couldn't ask for better care. As a former EMT I fully understand the wait times, I know critical patients are first so sometimes it does take awhile. My son has had multiple surgeries as well and has always had the best care. My hats are off to the 8th floor nurses that took care of my dad, you were the best couldn't have done it without you and the great staff of Dr. McNulty. Dr.McNulty was there through our darkest days. Thanks for the loving care from all. I've always thought yes wait times may seem long but if your family member was in there you'd want quality care to. Thanks to all from the ER to the 8th floor nurses and staff we are truly blessed to have such a wonderful medical center. God Bless!
The doctors didnt seem to care. Went in for a possible internal bleed. They never checked and was told to call my gynecologist. Sent me home with information on pelvic pain. Was in a room for over 6 hours and hardly saw anyone even when i pressed the call a nurse button.
Have been here 8 times, each time I was treated like dirt. Rude doctors and staff, my newborn was injured by a doctor who was in a hurry. Went in once because I was slipped a daterape drug and the nurses treated me like I was a liar and wouldn't do labs. Finally they agreed to do the labs and I was positive for a daterape drug and all they cared about was questioning me about me other medication that showed up, which Ive been prescribed since childhood. They sling people in and out of that place like pieces of meat. I came in for a pregnancy complication and they accused me of lying about being pregnant. Seriously, these people are out of their minds. I've never been treated so poorly by anyone, I'm amazed that these people have chosen a profession that requires caregiving, I've never left that place feeling like I was treated like a human being. This place is deplorable.
I was a patient at Betty Cameron Women's and Children's hospital after cancer surgery in 2014. I received excellent care by a great staff of nurses. My room was clean.I was treated with kindness and respect by all. I was kept well informed of my progress and most important, my family was treat very well.
We arrived at the same time the Ambulance did with our family member. We informed the triage nurse that our patient was experiencing an altered level of consciousness and she said as soon as they got her in a room she would take us back. 45 minutes later I asked if they had her a room yet to which she replied, oh yes, I forgot. So now we back with the patient. Seems everyone has been looking for us to tell them what going on. The Dr Wiles came in and we explained. He made some orders. The nurse Janet comes in to draw blood and states she is going to start an IV and draw blood. I showed her the patient already had an IV established by EMS and asked 8f she need another. She said no and that EMS had forgotten to tell her. (Hey! Thats why you perform your own initial assessment. It's a standard practice to do so before you chart your assessment which obviously is bogus and had not been done correctly.) So, she then discovers that EMS had already drawn labs in the Ambulance on the way in. Later the NA1, Angie, try to take an oral temp 11 times and even tried giving the patient a drink of water which is an absolute nono. She put that thermometer in every part of the mouth except the posterior portion sublingual aspect. Finally an axillary temp was recorded. Later our nurse Janet informed us that the antibiotic she was on may have caused the Temperature to spike. The Dr verified that that was a load of hoowie. Never heard anything like that in my 20 years as an ER nurse. Later Janet said at discharge that her sodium was low but that it was fixed now because they had given her a bag of isotonic normal saline. That's another load of hoowie. One bag of fluids would be a drop of water against a forest fire in this situation and isotonic solutions fo not raise levels of anything... their isotonic!!! Don't get me started about the lab fiasco. They decided to wait on labels which the nurse never sent. Worst ER experience in decades! Janet is an idiot with a poor skill set and terrible education. Angie needs to learn to do what she says she's going to do and some basics like how to take a temp. Dr Wiles needs to be a little more agrees I've with the stupid people that work for him from the nurses to the lab personnel.
I had a hard time finding anyone who could answer questions about my mother's condition. There don't seem to be many notes entered into the computer system. I asked the doctor to call me but he never did. One nurse went above and beyond to help me. I was told my mother had to meet two criteria before she could be released. She had met only one when they released her and she ended up right back in the emergency room less than 21 hours later. Not happy!!! There is no excuse for this.
