ER is the worst, doctors ignore patients you can sit there for hours waiting for blood test to come back, and the doctors seem not to care

Would not recommend this hospital. Not treated like a human being. Just another number.

Danbury Hospital is a good hospital for general care and certain health conditions but not for more complicated and complex health issues. It seems to be a teaching hospital filled with medical interns and assistants. There resources seemed to be limited.

I was admitted through the Emergency Room. The Emergency Department staff treated me efficiently and pleasantly. However things changed once I was wheeled up to the floor--a teaching floor. A man on my unit screamed and yelled non-stop during my entire four day hospitalization. I wondered why nothing was done about this--for the man's sake as well as that of all the other ill patients. It was NEVER quiet and sleeping was impossible. There were very serious mix ups in my medication and it was not corrected before I left. There was a stream of residents who neither identified themselves properly nor treated me properly and with compassion. If you can avoid being in this hospitals on a weekend--it is a good idea, I was astonished at the lack of proper communication between residents and hospitalists. The nurse and nurses' aides were the saving grace here. They are understaffed and so incredibly overworked that it impinges on quality care. Hospital issued phones are going off constantly while they are in your room and they have to answer them. The average was three phone calls each time a nurse or nurses' aide was in my room. I had to call for help (due to not receiving one of my medications) and was talked to so rudely that I could not believe a staff member had such nerve. If I had had the strength--I would have worked to the nurses' station to find out who had dismissed my need and talked to me with such utter disrespect. Do not go to this hospital alone. Always have someone there as your advocate who is watching everything, listening and asking questions are your behalf. It can be a dangerous and scary place.
