It appears that all HMO’s suffer from too many problems, one is complacency, hours of operation are often limited and do not seek second opinions within as they have an overwhelming tendency to read the other coworkers opinion and ditto it. But it is usually a one stop shop. Their md’s tend to be middle of the road as far as competence. They sacrifice a better income in place of not having to rent, lease or build a clinic, hire staff and deal with pharmaceutical companies... They often only work M-F, AM to 5 PM. If you check closely they are given set times to deal with patients and become intolerant of people asking too many questions. It’s much like an assembly line. They can be out of touch with patients once they have issued their medications or surgery. But they get the job done and infrequently get challenged as they have among the best legal representation in all of medicine. Very few legal challenges are won by the patient. This writer recommends you frequently request all medical records as it granted via the freedom of information act in the US and individual states. You may find some strong differences of opinions in what transpired and what happens to you.

Complacent to many patients needs. They are very difficult to contact out of the 9 AM to about 4:30 PM. They may call you from a number that cannot be called back but leave another number to call back, mind boggling. They are very resistant to accepting new methods to interact with patients. Stand in line while waiting to be admitted into a doctor visit and most any person behind you, at a suggested waiting distance, can listen to most every word being said. They need to have separate admitting rooms with closed doors. Try to question or obtain records can be confusing at best. They make a monumental task of changing records. This writer suggests patients should be recording each visit on their Kaiser record data, as doctors and staff can and do apply many false statements to medical records. It is a one way street, in favor of Kaiser. You are left at their mercy which can be devastating. If more patients were to collect and review their records, many may feel betrayed.

You can look and look and only for the most part, find average ratings for Kaiser doc's. They can become lethargic and complacent as this type of care breeds it. They do not have to hire staff, rent or purchase space, and high malpractice premiums and are profoundly protected by a litany of overpaid attorneys that can and will overwhelm most attorneys in malpractice suites. Yes, this allows for more time to practice, in theory, but they are regulated by bean counters. Always ask how much time you are given for each visit. They do not leave open hours for their medical staff to spend with you. You get what you pay for. Unfortunately most other similar services are the same, such as, UC Davis, Sutter, etc. These are not among the most motivated docs you can find, just look at their ratings from users.
