This nurse practitioner misdiagnosed my father as having the flu when he had really experienced a massive heart attack. As a result of this incompetence, my father developed vascular dementia which is progressive and has had a significant impact on my father's memory and quality of life. My mother is now a full time caregiver for my dad. This nurse practitioner has essentially ruined my parents' lives. We are in a state of grief over this loss. There has been no acknowledgement of the damage and no apology and no accountability. Island Health is unable to initiate a review of my father's care. I am incredibly distressed about all of this.
