Dr. Nims has diagnosed me for basil cell skin cancer and her partner Dr. Rudbarry (Redbarry?) removed a cyst on my neck. Of the two, like others, I prefer Dr. R----y over Dr. Nims. Dr. Nims is nice enough, and like all doctors in NOVA, she is overworked and has no time for personal pleasantries. That said, when I asked her basic questions about my condition, she gave me answers. Highly technical, but answers nonetheless. I would search for another derm in the area but Northern VA is getting to be like Calcutta or Mexico City--too many people and not enough doctors. I'm sure B'Obama will save us all right? Hopefully I won't die of skin cancer before then.

I waited close to two hours in the waiting room to see this doctor for a simple skin exam of which 58 minutes were in a paper gown!

Dr. Linda Nims is very knowledgeable in her field and makes an accurate diagnosis. However, if you prefer a doctor with a bedside manner, this is not the doctor for you. She is not friendly and does not take the time to talk things over with you (even when she told me I had progressing melanoma cancer, she was in and out in 60 seconds, telling me to follow up with a surgeon and an oncologist - she also seemed irritated and impatient with me when I asked additional questions). Her associate in the practice, Dr. Rebecca Rudd-Barry, is outstanding in her medical knowledge and has a wonderful, caring disposition. Dr. Barry has the best of everything you want in a doctor and is very highly recommended. Dr. Barry has been my treating dermatologist now for years.

I went to this doctor about four years ago and the negative comments about her are spot on. However, after going to several other dermatologists, I was recommended to her partner Dr. Barry, and she's wonderful. I wish I would have known about her years ago. Dr. Barry does a more thorough examination and even puts on special light goggles to examine skin irregularities. She also spends the time with you and doesn't have one foot out the door, as Dr. Nims does. I had a situation where Nims couldn't find nor guess what a red spot was on my nose that had appeared six months earlier. The next dermatologist I went to quickly told me what it was and a second later confirmed that.

My experience was quite good. I had none of the bad experiences expressed above. I waited maximum of 5 mins. to get in a room and spent just a few mins. giving the nurse information. Dr. Nims removed a suspicious mole in 5 minutes. She explained exactly what she was doing and what to do for post opt. She did not linger, but she certainly did not rush out either. Also, the staff were quite polite. I am not refuting other's experience. I just think that it is only fair to say that she is as informative as other dermatologists have been with me.

Her knowledge base was extremely limited. Also, she told me she would call me at home within a week or two.It has been 4 months....she has not called me yet.I went to her with a specific problem that I had resaerched very well. It seemed as if I knew more than her about it and she was not ready to listen to my findings either. All in all it was a negative experience and I will not go to this docotr again!

Prevous comments are right on. Went into the office standing room. I waited and waited, others told the receptionist they just couldn't wait any longer and walked out. She removed a suspicious looking spot on my arm and gave me a total body mole check. When I say total body, it took her all of 5 seconds. I had to go back to have this little surgery spot checked. Waited and waited and then got about 10 seconds of her time. Never again.

There was a long wait to get into the room, then more waiting for the doctor. I went for a consult on a facial bump and melasma (already diagnosed by primary doctor). Even after explaining that the hydroquinone that was prescribed for the melasma irritated the area, Dr. Nims said she didn't know what it was. She also couldn't give an answer as to what the bump might be. It doesn't make me feel that she is very competent when the only responses I get are "I don't know." She was more interested in the freckles on my shoulders even though that was not covered by my referral. This is my only experience with a dermotologist, and I don't think I will be seeing another any time soon.

Definitely the worst dermatologist for acne I've ever encountered. She's so overbooked that moments after she walks in the room she puts her hand on the door and tries to leave -- if you try to ask questions she'll answer you with both feet in the hallway, as she needs to move on. She explains nothing and seems frustrated when you need an explanation, yet she's one of those doctors that perhaps deserves second-guessing (she once gave me meds for rosacea but my subsequent dermo said I had no rosacea, my skin was just irritated from the acne meds). I'm 25 with really bad acne and she kept lobbing these weak meds at me. I couldn't get her to give me accutane -- I now have significant scarring on the right side of my face, which is a lovely thing to suddenly find yourself with at 25. Perhaps she's great with other skin conditions or with mild acne, but if you have fairly severe to severe acne, I would steer clear of this one if you don't want to scar.
