One of the most out of date sexist psychiatrists I have met. He performed an ASD assessment for me in 2021 (I’m female). He was extremely sexist and unprofessional. Asked me infront of my family if I had any deep traumas and asked to provide details in front of them. Always showed up 5-10 minutes late for appointments and did not make up the time at the end of the session. Told me that he can’t diagnose me with ASD because I ‘enjoyed spending time with friends and this is not characteristic of autistic behaviour’. I saught out 3 seperate opinions, two psychology assessments, one psychiatry assessment (with a different practitioner) and was diagnosed by all 3 with having ASD level 2 + ADHD severe . He does not know what he is doing. He will charge your credit card like a bull and waste time so you have to do more sessions. All practitioners I went to see after were shocked he didn’t do an ASD/ADHD assessment together (no one realised I had ADHD not even me) but it’s apparently standard to test these together. This guy has so many open appointments in his diary (i wonder why) and anytime I would book an appointment for the following day after seeing him, he always cancelled last minute. If I then booked for the following day after the cancelation… he would also just cancel last minute and tell me he will see me in a week. If you feel like wasting time and money… he’s the man for you! 🤩
Extremely sexist and out-dated knowledge and highly unproffessional. I saw him for an Autism assessment during which he had his office phone on hold to vodafone to work out his personal mobile issues and was picking it up every 5 minutes during my appointment. It was a massive breach of privacy as the phone was on the whole time. He told me he doesn't think male and female autism present any differently and was still using terms such as high/low-funcitoning and aspergers which he still considered a legit seperate diagnosis. He missed diagnosed me with something other than autism which I have now got a 2nd opinion and confirmed that I most definitely do have autism, from a psychologist who didn't just ask me "do I like train schedules". Absolute wast of time and money.
I have been seeing Dr Brendan Murphy for a few months now and i’m so glad i started seeing him. He is patient and understanding of anxieties associated with taking new medications. He listens and remembers sessions - which is impressive for such a busy psychiatrist. He is aware of current political correctness (i don’t know the proper terminology for this) and is careful and considerate with his words. If you are tossing up seeing this doctor, i strongly recommend you give him a go. He has really helped me.
Brendan Murphy, has been an exceptional psychiatrist for 5 years. First walking into the office as a 15 year old Brendan always made me feel safe and respected. He never once gave up on me, even after I gave up on my self. Brendan was always responsible in care and throughout the 5 years accommodated me based on my needs. I am now a 20 year old patient but I am no longer restricted by my mind, after two years of deference I am back at university, making friends and being genuinely happy. Not to say there won’t be bad days, there will be. But Brendan got me to point where I can genuinely live and be happy. He’s an incredible person and I am so grateful because he changed my life.
Brilliant psychiatrist, professional, friendly. Listens. The best psych I've ever had - and believe me, I've seen a few.
Saw him twice, wish I hadn’t gone back the second time. Suggested I get some professional photographs taken, that made me feel unattractive. Made me feel like I was just another 30 something single woman complaining, not an individual. Pressured me into taking medication without listening to my concerns. Condescending.
I wish I could have seen Brendan for longer than I did. Has taken me a long time to get back on my feet again after he moved and I feel so silly about it but, sometimes I feel like I still miss him so much. Even though I was just one of his many patients. I’m crying now thinking about it all. The system let me down after he left, I lost everything without warning and ended up in a public ward. He is the one doctor that gave me time and patience and never pushed me. I wanted to feel safe with him and I was slowly getting there. Many people never gave me the time to do so which only traumatised me more. Brendan didn’t do that. He was giving me space to heal. Thank you for everything Brendan. I hope you’re well and I hope your family is doing well also. Keep your magic :)
I came to him for help with my anxiety and I think he did the best he could seeing as it was a one time meeting. My only downside to the event was he said my sexuality was a phase, which caught me off guard and hurt me quite a bit. Other than that, he seemed a logical man with lot of experience, I believe he genuinely wants to help people but my not always have the filter those who are struggling might need
