Ratings for Dr. James Lam

He is the worst, everytime I ask for more information into the pills he's giving, or the cause of my condition it feel like he's sighing at the thought of having to explain it for me. And when he does explain it it's very useless and often feels like I'm getting talked down to. He refused to give me a referral to a dermatologist despite the fact that my condition was disrupting my life, I ended up going to the ER. Don't go to him, the only redeeming quality of that office is his secretary.
Dr Lam is very pragmatic and to the point. He is detailed in his exploration of the issue and listens to the patient closely. He take detailed notes of the visit
Further to the review I made here in January 2021, about an approximate two year period starting in 2017/18 until approximately March/April 2020, about the refusal, lax and negligent care regarding my husbands concerns and health about the consistent pain he was experiencing in his abdomen. A new Dr immediately found extremely high counts in my husbands bilirubin etc. which had been happening previous to seeing the new Dr. who was so concerned he ordered an urgent MRI and a CT scan, which revealed my husband had a Klatskins Tumour. He was then sent to a local surgeon who said it was rare and he was not experienced in dealing with this type of tumour and my husband was referred to liver surgeons at VGH. In Dec 2020 while waiting for his surgery, my husband had a severe case of jaundice and lost 60lbs. His surgery resulted in 70% of his liver being removed, his bile duct worked on and his gall bladder removed and several blood infections. He was told that all cancer had been removed, but for extra protection oral chemo for 6 months. Fast forward to Feb 2022, after a year of ongoing CTSCANs, MRI’s Blood work, dozens of trips to the emergency dept for excruciating pain in his abdomen and abdomen draining due to it filling with ascites fluid. In Dec 2021, my husband had a MRI and a Hydascan (spelling) and he was given an all clear. In Feb 2022 he was told he had stage 4 cancer and only weeks to a couple of months to live. The shock was unbelievable and devastating! My husband had been a patient of Lam’s for years and had a lot of trust in him. I kept begging him to find another Dr, but he believed in Lam. It was only when we moved to another city did my husband finally agree to a new Dr. My husband died March 26/22. I lost a husband, my son’s lost their father and our grandchildren lost a grandfather, all due to what I, and family and friends believe was total negligence. According to the surgeons, the tumour was slow growing. In other words, had tests be done after repeatedly getting blood work back with flags and warnings, my husband could possibly be alive today with several good years ahead of him. I’ve heard Dr Lam in the past has had reports sent to the College of Physician and Surgeons regarding his practice. My family and I are devastated by the results of all the pain and suffering he went through and ultimately- death
If this is your Dr. Please find another one. He is responsible for my dads death. Worst doctor ever.
Do not let your wife or daughter see this doctor. Check with College of Physicians & Surgeons for any complaints or charges!
Horrible experience with Dr. Lam. He's impatient and belittles you when you want to learn more. He seams to hate questions and isn't interested in giving explanations. First doctor in my lifetime to actually yell at me to the point I walked away crying.
Really rude to my dad and me!!! Everytime we ask questions, he always seem so impatient. Looking for a new family dr right now.
This is one very scary doctor. Ignored and pooh-poohed all the warning signs of my husband’s excessively high blood counts for 2 years. Passing it off as too much sugar and alcohol (husband is not an alcoholic) Instead of investigating the cause, for the high counts, he was continuously sent for blood work and ultrasounds. The end result, we moved and found a new Dr. who sent him for blood tests. When the Dr saw the results he ordered a CT scan and a MRI, which showed he had bile duct cancer. My husband suffered needlessly both mentally and physically because Lam couldn’t be bothered to go the extra mile. I was a patient of his for a short time. I went to him to see about what I thought was skin cancer. He told me it was psoriasis, my husband who has had recurring skin cancer since 1989, said it was basal. When I told this to Lam he was indignant and asked if I wanted him to do a biopsy, to which I said yes. It was basal cell cancer.
Dr. Lam is my kind of doctor. He tells it like it is, very knowledgable and no nonsense. Makes me feel that I can take care of my body better than anyone else can. Makes me want to be proactive when it comes to my health. The staff take time to remember your name. So friendly and personal
