Left us with more questions than answers. My grandfather was admitted and after all the other wonderful hospital staff came in and out and did their jobs wonderfully, he walked in briskly, stated “You had a heart attack. You need to stay here” and then pretty much ran out of the room. My grandpa and family tried to ask questions before he left but he just ignored us and walked out. In a previous appointment, he simply refilled my grandpa’s prescriptions without even checking him over, asking him any questions, or confirming anything. We are concerned that this doctor’s lack of people skills, empathy, or care for his patients could one day result in something serious being missed, overlooked, or done wrong.

He is a terrible one. People will get sick instead of getting better.

Dr. S. Van Niekirk was my family doctor for a number of years after my other one retired. He was curt and limited you to only 3 problems per visit. Make another appointment if you have more. At 67 years old, I had diabetes, thyroid, kidney disease, osteoarthritis, and very bad anemia. Choosing which to talk about could be tricky. For several years, he carried on with my previous doctor's thyroid scheduling, put me on iron pill supplements, and did nothing but monitor my kidney disease. Later, after my car accident, I had a few more problems to add to my list that REALLY irritated him and caused him to be rude, unprofessional and bullying. Even that I put up with until I learned.. through my accident doctors, not him, that I had iron pill disease in my stomach from taking them for so long.. that I had stomach cancer causing my anemia.. that my kidnets were now functioning at 40.. and, when I asked him for a referral (required) to the LiveWell Program for Chronic Disease and Pain Management.. he kept barking questions at me about why (name pretty well says it).. I told him because he already had too much to handle with me and I had called them to see if it woukd be appropriate and they affirmed, told me to get a referral. He kept rolling his eyes as he typed at his computer. Finally, against all my values of decorum, I asked him to please stop rolling his eyes at me. His response? "Well, this is a RIDICULOUS referral!" He made the referral, but when I checked with them they said that he told them not to mess with my insulin. Only problem with that, is that in the 6 years since I was diagnosed before coming to him.. I had NEVER been on insulin. I changed doctors immediately.. no fuss.. just exit stage left! My LiveWell specialist put me on some medicine to protect my kidneys from my Type 2, well managed, diabetes. Never heard of that connection before!!

Went to this "specialist" for my shoulder, ultra sound and X-ray show a thickened tendon in the rotator cuff. To break the ice I asked about him coming from South Africa, which pissed him off and then he wasn't to thrilled about my husband being in the room. He asks me to take off my jacket and gets me to do some range of motion. Which is fairly good, he then says you don't have tendonitis you have frozen shoulder and if you get the shot( cortisone) it might give you some relief. So I said if it is not going to help I won't get it. The report he send to my doctor was that I refused the treatment. I agree with a lot of statements in these reviews. He kept looking at his tablet, he lacked human kindness and was blunt and not willing to listen. I'm getting a second opinion.

I went to him for help regarding my mental health and I was dismissed, talk down to, condescended to, was told he didn’t have time to look at my chart and left crying. I will never go to this walk in again. Says a lot considering this use to be the office of my family doctor.

Wow does this doctor ever think highly of himself. Arrogant, egotistical, superior, big headed and did I say arrogant.

He was amazing; hands down the BEST bedside manner I have ever had at a walk in clinic. He did not rush me, he offered so much empathy and compassion, he took his time to hear me and to explain things to me. My reason for visiting, was a very sensitive topic, and so to go into a walk in instead of my family doctor was a bit nerve racking, but he was incredibly comforting and supportive. I highly recommend him.

When asking if there was a way to aid in my issue that didn't include medication (as I already am on medication for a chronic disease) he responded with "like what" and when I said I wasnt sure and asked about supplements or similar treatment, he rolled his eyes scoffed at me and responded with "you don't know science" (I work as a paramedic and have a basic knowledge of medical science not that it matters). I then told him I would monitor my symptoms as they aren't severe and with his face glued to his computer he scoffed again and said Cya. This lack or professionalism is ridiculous. This doctor is a clown and it took everything within me to not beat the wheels off of him. After reading all these other negative reviews, maybe it would have been good for him.
