Dr Rigal performed a " Kiari Osteotomy " on my left hip at the University of Alberta Hospital on April 26, 1976, some 45 years ago. As with the guy with the undisolveable stitches left in his knee, I was left with a piece of surgical equipment inside after close up, they think. Still there to this day! Now, whether Dr Rigal was directly responsible for that.....?

Dr Rigal is wonderful. The Shadbolt family loves him. he looked after all our scoliosis (all 5 of us) and when I broke my neck - her was wonderful. He gave my Dad a heck but it was well deserved!

I would not recommend Dr. Rigal to my worst enemy. He performed right knee surgery on my when I was 18 and I've seen animals get sent home from a veterinary clinic in better shape. He thinks his $hit doesn't stink when he talks and basically just messed around in my knee, left undissolvable stitches in my knee, terrible scar tissue, list goes on. Do your homework on Doctors within Alberta's Health Care System and stay far away from this guys practice.

Dr. Rigal was courteous, very knowledgeable and excellent manners, along with his superb surgery. I knew I had the best surgeon, so if I did as I was told then I would have the best result, for my anterolateral ligament (shredded). 30+ years ago now....and the knee still works! THANK YOU!

I worked for Dr. Rigal a number of years ago and this man is one of the best surgeons out there. My husband also had a spinal fusion done by Dr. Rigal which was successful. I laughed at some of these reviews. The negative reviews are primarily those who don't have a sense of humor. A doctor who is not politically correct...he tells the truth will give you the best treatment for your condition. No doubt one of the best surgeons who also taught at the university.

Some of these patients need to calm down and be a grown up. The doctor has every right to point out obesity as a risk factor for bad knees. But I digress. Dr Rigal refused to operate on my severe bunion, and pointed out that the problem was with my tight calves (I'm a ballet dancer). Thanks to him, I didn't have potentially detrimental surgery, and my physio has been successful at mitigating the pain and dysfunction. Few surgeons are willing to turn down the opportunity to operate. This one is, if it's in the best interests of his patients. That to me is more important than how good my ego feels after a visit.

I was referred to Dr. Rigal by my family physician. I had pain in my shoulder for almost two years and it was getting worse. Pain medication did not help. Dr. Rigal sent me for ultrasound and x-rays. Upon reviewing them he found I had two small tears in my rotator cuff and deltoid. After a thorough examination he prescribed Ibuprophen cream to apply and cover with seran wrap to ease the pain, and a simple exercise that I was to do daily. The cream alleviated the pain considerably, but the exercise was a bit painful to start. However after only two weeks there was great improvement in my range of motion. After three months, the pain was gone and I no longer needed the cream. I am now pain free and have more strength than ever. Before seeing doctor Rigal I was resigned to having arthroscopic surgery and long rehab. Fortunately, he did not feel I needed surgery and was correct. His knowledge is legendary which is a tribute to his long education and teaching Orthopedics. His no nonsense approach and insistence on following instructions may be a bit direct, but if you are not going to follow advice, why see a doctor in the first place? Highly recommend.

Dr. Regal is a very kind, friendly, honest, and extremely intelligent man. He may sound abrupt however he really has no time to BS and is brutally honest. He says it the way it is. He is very thorough with the medical examination as well as reading all your chart information including all XR and lab results. He makes suggestions to help you with the injury. If surgery will help he will say so, if surgery won't help he will say so. We saw him twice as it states, bring someone with you to the appointment and bring all XR and lab results with you. (Not the XR report but the disk so he can see it firsthand) Before we went to the appointment we were aware of this. People need to read what his instructions are. There are reasons for these instructions. Dr. Regal has a wonderful sense of humor, and though he may seem abrupt, he has his patients' best interests at heart. That is why is so, sometimes brutally, honest. I would recommend him to anyone if they want the honest truth and the best help he provides. He is a wonderful, caring, and very descent physician! :-)
