Ratings for Dr. D. Varma
My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Varma's for eleven years. We love her and all her staff. We were sad when Gayle left -- and devastated when Debbie, her receptionist died. They all treated us with respect and caring Love their replacements, too. Do remember that a receptionist job is front line and hard and part of their job is to be a bit of a buffer for the doctor. so the workload misbalanced with demands on her time. Go to the emerg if you are in emergency situation. Dr Varma is compassionate and kind. We have been through tragedy and sorrow, mental heath issues and physical ones and she has listened and helped us in our healing. Thanks to her, acting on her advice, we got a diagnosis of Alzheimer's early for my husband. This knowledge, hard as it is,just knowing has made the journey so much easier. We do not expect her to know what our needs are each time we visit- or remember last time. A doctor's workload is never sane. Especially since Covid. Yes it can be frustrating with wait times but again we take responsibility too. Do not wait until the day before your prescription runs out to call. Two weeks at least! Keep a calendar. Or better, book ahead. We also are capable of asking questions and being our own advocates and . asking for what we need or want or do not know. We have had a hard time when she has referred us to specialists .... hearing back from them. The waiting time there is insane. But that is on their end, not hers. It is up to us to be squeaky wheels and say we have not heard so she knows this information and how urgent it is. Sometimes, I think we expect doctors to be perfect as God and mind readers and they are human beings. We are only two of many she cares for. And we are not perfect either. We feel blessed to be her patients and have her as a doctor. She and her team, past and present, are our in our prayers of gratitude.
I have been a patient if Dr Varma’s for over 2 years now. Her staff has been helpful but with he speed with which she completes necessary medical forms for insurance and otherwise has been inadequate. It took her 9 months to complete the forms necessary for my disability and was without any income until then and necessitated some pretty fancy maneuvering with the bank to meet my mortgage payments and the be able to continue to have my children continue in their school. This stress on top of a life threatening health issue was not appreciated and completely unacceptable. She is a very lively person, but failed me at my greatest hours of need.
Each time you go back for you check up or visit she asks why are you here, what meds do you take and the office equipment is old and warn and not so sanitary. Why would a doctor send you for tests and upon return visit not give you results as you have to ask for them. Maybe its the way now in this busy world of not enough doctors and too many patients. She always shows a caring side but that is in words so not too sure if that is all it takes to make your patience feel confident.
