Tried twice to get blood drawn. First time at 7.20 am I was number 33 and they were on #5 - ouch. Left. Returned at 2.30 and it was just as bad. Left again. I was not the only person who left complaining about the service. I also noticed that the intake was extremely slow. It shouldn't take any length of time with a health card and a few questions. Not an acceptable level of service. Can't comment on staff as I didn't interact with them but the volunteer on the front desk was wonderful.
I hate this hospital and regret giving them the benefit of the doubt . Spent 12 hours there yesterday . My husband had to go back for CT scan . He has an abscess in his bowels and are admitting him for 5 days . So he actually got admitted 8 HOURS AGO. He has been sitting in a chair since 8 this morning . Not once asked about one of the 3 meals offered to admitted patients . No these clowns have him sitting in a chair for 12 hours . I made the mistake once of bring my son there with a huge gash in his head . No one in emerg. We waited for 6 hours while I listened to two nurses talk about doctors and other nurses ...oh and apparently nurses don't suture . Really ? . I waited for a paramedic to come on duty. I guess they are called first responders for a reason . Uses ? We will get to you when we can responders . At DGH anyway . WORST HOSPITAL
Over the last decade I’ve used this hospital many times for a lifelong illness. Er nurses are awesome , triage nurses , ambulance staff all doing their utmost to provide care as quickly as possible although they are well over worked , it’s understaffed, and the stress shows. The ER drs are on the other hand a 50/50 shot , your gonna get a good one or complete @&$hat. Wait times will be anywhere from 10mins to 3hrs plus while watch people with a common cold go in before you while you vomit up blood and curl up in agony. The surgeons , well have had quite a few , all great professionals , even when they make a mistake they want to learn from it. Again , they are overworked and understaffed. Yes it’s dirty than some , I’ve seen cleaner in the poor parts of Brazil , not a joke . Maintenance is lackey sorely on many little issues , doors , lights , locks etc. Basically , if your not dying or think you can make it before you do , head to Halifax. It’s cleaner, usually quicker getting admitted and looked after. But I can’t speak to the surgeons or nurses as I’ve not had enough time in there. One trip I had they were all great and it was clean.
Visited emergency back in the end of November with serious issues that were later diagnosed as a disease by medical staff at a different hospital. The doctor here that saw me was incredibly uninterested and dismissive. It was a waste of my time going there. My wait was short, I was in a lot of pain, it was bad and triage knew it. Yet the doctor on duty failed to take notice or interest in any of my symptoms and red flags. Other medical professionals that helped me after my visit and admittance to ANOTHER hospital were shocked at how sick I was. I will never waste me time seeking medical help and guidance from anyone at this hospital. There are better doctors at better locations in this province.
The emergency area and the room in the ward was not clean, same mop water used for large areas- halls, bathroom, rooms. Staff are rushed and not enough staff overnight to deal with patients on a he wards. Released after surgery without eating or moving bowels. Felt very rushed and no attention to persons health.
I was brought to the Dartmouth General for severe stomach pain. The ER nurses were fantastic!had me in right away. But when I was on the inside everything went down hill. My husband was with me. I was taken to get an X-ray,I was given something to make my pain go away so I wasn’t able to talk or sit up. The lady proceeded to take me to X-ray and the technician looked at me and said ,,I can’t X-ray her she can’t even sit up. The lady that took me into the X-ray room had me partly sat up but when the technician said she couldn’t do the X-ray she just let me go and I fell back pretty hard. I was in the hallway for 5 hours then they put me in a room with another lady. My pain came back with vengeance and my husband wasn’t with me so I had to just suffer the pain,it was so bad I was rubbing my ankles together and they were bleeding before anyone came in to give me a needle. I really think the government should have a lot more Dr’s at this hospital.i mean what in God’s name are they doing with our taxes????
This is an excellent place for socializing. I love hanging out and talking about stuff with the nurses. We watch T.V and talk about so many things: Vacation,Netflix, coworkers and Hot Doctors. My only complaint is that the ICU is too loud with screaming patients. It gets so bad that we have to move our conversation with the nurses outside the building at Tim Hortons. It is ok though, when we come back the patients pass out--clearly they got medical attention and are just resting. I suggest for the Hospital to invest in more methods to ignore patients. Clearly using two waiting rooms isn't enough. I suggest more lunch-breaks and meditation breaks. It would be so cool to bust out a yoga mat and meditate while patients are waiting and worrying. Something, something chaos and harmony makes a great meditation atmosphere :)
