This year I decided to get lasik surgery on my birthday! I couldn’t have asked for a better gift. I have never had better vision. Dr. Parkhurst and his staff were amazing and all signed a birthday card and sang for me! This group of people are one of a kind and are truly passionate about what they do.

Had a great experience here. I am really looking foward to no having to wear glasses anymore when I’m playing sports or doing hobbies. I had surgery done at 7am and by 4pm I was already seeing with 20/15 eye vision. It was a painless and quick procedure that I wil highly recommend to any and every one!

I also had to have eye surgery on my eyes. so far I've had my right eye done and what an amazing difference. White colors are white not having a yellow tinge. The surgery was fast an absolutely painless. on the next day post op my eye was checked by the docs n how well i could see. well i had 20/20 vision on the day after surgery. NO WAY!!! even the docs were amazed n the scar was already hard to see. healing fast. All the staff was friendly, knew their jobs with excellence and enjoyed what they were doing. after 64 plus years wearing glasses what an amazing difference. like getting a new eye. i even could see clearly on the way home at everything around me even with the safety patch on. If you wish to have your eyes done go see Dr. Parkhurst Nuvision an staff. They are fantastic and willing to serve you to the max. the only down side is the long wait to get surgery done and i know they are working on that as they had just moved into a new place and were still under settling in. I can't wait to get the other eye done and get rid of glasses. They also give you surgery choices as to what you want done on your sight and they give you all the information necessary prior. Then asking if you have any questions at all or you can call any time prior to or after surgery to ask questions. They are more than willing to help you in any way just to make you comfortable at all times. When ever they have to call you they ask you if you have any questions that may have come up when you get home. Always caring on how your doing.

Unbelievable!!! I can actually see again. I am an Olympic Athlete (Fencing 1984/88) and this will allow me to compete again in my age group without having to squint or have my contacts fall out during combat. The physicians and staff were fantastic. When it comes to your vision don't go cheap. As the old adage says, "You get what you pay for." Pay for the best, NuVision! -John Moreau

This staff is out of this world! I didn’t want to leave! I wanted a glass of Jack Daniels and just to stay with them and hang out, the music upfront is so great. I had cataract surgery somewhere else about 15 years ago, I didn’t meet them at the surgery. They weren’t very congenial. I had a torn retina after that. I came to Parkhurst NuVision for a YAG evaluation for my eyes and I’m sad that today is my last day here! I wish I could come back for all of my visits! - Rodney F.

I’ve been in glasses since I was 8. I started getting so many headaches. It wasn’t normal for a kid my age to have so many headaches. My parents took me and got me glasses, but you know how kids can be in school – mean. So I hid them in my jacket all the time. I am a huge chicken and anything involving doctors, surgeries, and needles! But when I went for my annual checkup with Dr. Racoma, she said I had increased pressures in my eyes. She then referred me to Dr. Parkhurst. They gave me a few options and I chose Refractive Lens Exchange because I thought “Hey, no glasses sounds awesome to me!”. It’s been great. I don’t have to worry about cataracts later on either. Everybody that I have come in contact with at this office has been super super nice. It’s one of those offices where it’s a pleasure to go in, even if it’s a doctor’s office! When you wear glasses, you are very limited on things you can do. I am looking forward to going swimming now. Swimming with contacts used to be a pain and it wasn’t comfortable swimming with glasses. I can even get sunglasses without prescription, the nice stuff! To be able to wake up in the morning and be able to see without trying to find my glasses a few feet away is awesome. I’m a writer, so I have to use the computer a lot and it’s been easy! I have been recommending everybody to Parkhurst NuVision! As much as I was afraid of it, it was so quick and painless and basically no time for recovery. I could see the moment I got up from the bed! I love it. The best thing I have done for myself in my life! - Iuliana Foos

When the time came that I needed cataract surgery, my really great optometrist told me that if he needed cataract surgery, Parkhurst Nuvision is where he would go to have the work done. That’s all I needed to hear, and called to made my first appointment. My experiences at Parkhurst NuVision could not have been better. I have met four of the five doctors who work there, and I have been served by three of them. Dr. Parkhurst did my actual cataract surgery. He is a world-famous ophthalmologist. How blessed we are to have him in San Antonio, and only 45 minutes from where I live! Dr. Saenz did one of my post-ops. When I went back for lasering a few months after my cataract surgery, Dr. V. my testing, dilated my eyes, etc., and Dr. Saenz came in to say “hello," and while he was with me, answered some questions for me. I couldn’t have asked more of either of these two doctors. They were great! All of the employees who work at Parkhurst Nuvision were quite obviously carefully chosen. They are noticeably well-educated and experienced, and are so very friendly, personable, and helpful. Somehow they have a way of making a patient quite comfortable and very much at ease. The office is so very lovely, and it is immaculately clean. When I had my first eye done, I remember going outside the following morning, and looking at the sky. I no longer needed glasses, and I could almost count the leaves on a tree in the distance. This, after wearing glasses for distance for 66 years! All of the colors were so different! I almost felt like I had a new pair of eyes! I’m going to end this review by saying that if you need eye surgery of any kind, I can highly recommend Parkhurst Nuvision. - L. Becker

Biography

Dr. Parkhurst has known since childhood that he wanted to help people with their eyesight. As a young kid growing up in rural Michigan, he, like many others, had to wear glasses. As an avid soccer and baseball player, his glasses were constantly falling off his face or becoming scratched and damaged on the ball field. After many years dealing with glasses & contacts, as well as several trips to have his eyes examined, Dr. Parkhurst began to look at his eye doctor in a different way. Not only did the young Dr. Parkhurst see the value in the services his doctor provided, but he admired the way his doctor was actively involved in the community. Eye care began to take on an important meaning: from patient to life purpose. “My doctor was really active in the community and was a real outstanding guy. I looked up to his stature in the town, how his practice sponsored community athletic teams, and really saw the importance of what he was providing me and my family.” Later while going to college and working as an eye technician for a local Ophthalmologist, Dr. Parkhurst had the unique opportunity to go on a cataract medical mission to southern Mexico. In many poor communities, people do not have access to quality eye surgery, which is so necessary in that part of the world. Many of these people were “hand-on-the-shoulder blind” from hyper-mature cataracts and would wait in line for days in order to have access to the team’s donated surgical services. The surgical team decided only to operate on one eye of each patient, even though most patients were functionally blind in both eyes. You really only need one seeing eye to function, and this way, twice as many people could be helped. One of the most memorable experiences of Dr. Parkhurst’s life was on the one-day postop when patients, many of whom had not seen for 20 or 30 years, came in with their families for their scheduled check-up. Dr. Parkhurst witnessed the joy of these grandparents when the bandages came off, and they quite literally saw their grandchildren’s faces for the very first time. The experience left him speechless and locked him into this profession for good. “Vision is such a precious thing that we can easily take for granted. I never tire of that moment when a patient sees again.” Dr. Parkhurst constantly strives to be the best in his field, particularly in San Antonio where he and his family have made a permanent home. Working with his hands and being able to have a significant impact on someone’s quality of life is a true passion. This passion to do the best work possible was recognized when he became one of the busiest LASIK surgeons in the nation while he served in the military, and also when he was presented the Global Young ICL Surgeon-of-the-Year award in 2013. As a busy surgeon and now international lecturer, he continues to be one of the leading Refractive surgeons in the country. Dr. Parkhurst’s commitment to his patients and his profession is never ending. He continues to explore and find the best possible treatments for his patients. Dr. Parkhurst has been honored by being one of a handful of talented surgeons nationally invited to take part in several FDA Clinical trials, as well as developing procedures and techniques of his own. In 2014, Dr. Parkhurst testified before an advisory panel for the FDA, which resulted in the recommendation for approval of a new procedure in the United States. “Forty or 50 years ago, cataract surgery meant a two week stay in the hospital, now I can give a person the ability to see again, many times in as little as a few minutes. I love my job, and I love doing procedures to help people with their vision.”
