If you need help this is the place to go. Everyone is friendly and support you in getting better. Would never go back to the public system after being here. If you need a place to heal and get better, this is the place to go

Peaceful nice surroundings however staff are the priority here not you not to mention some of ten most obnoxious overrated psychiatric team who think they are gods gift but other than that prof Saunders don't expect any treatment more complex than a single srri and a fair bit of cheek from the Westy staff plus if you let them know the truth don't expect to come back ever

First of all the patients are freaks - if you have ever had a shred of tertiary education or held down a half-decent job you will struggle with what winds up in here. The centrepiece of the facility is an impressive sandstone house built over 200 years ago. It houses the dining room and groups and staff rooms/admin offices. This majestic and sprawling home should be open to the public the craftsmanship in terms of high, pressed ceilings, stained glass, intricate mosaic tiling, collomnades, artwork etc is so impressive. The actual accommodation for patients is very substandard, it is really more what you would encounter in the public system (which actually matches the patients who are the socio-economic profile of public patients). 4 share dorms, 2 share dorms and single rooms without their own ensuites are the norm. Unisex toilets and showers are provided for people in single rooms. If you are female do you really want to shower and use toilets that have been used by men, complete with the toilet seats left up, little puddles of urine around the toilet and god knows WHAT bodily emissions could be hanging around the showers! I left within 24 hours because I could not use communal showers and going to the toilet was stressful. Don't expect a flat-screen television in your room, a bedside landline phone or even carpet! I can't comment on the programs due to the early departure but it would be dumbed down to suit the patients, I guess. Never, ever think that this is run by St John of God, the facilities will be comparable to St John of God Burwood which is undeniably the best private psychiatric hospital in Sydney ( and my guess, Australia.) Look these people were very kind in terms of arranging lifts to and from the station for me and I will dream of that magnificent old house until I hit the grave, but if you are used to a metropolitan standard of private hospital please drive, fly or take a unicycle to St John of God Burwood where mostly single, ensuited rooms, televisions, amazing programs and food will await. As well as prettier crucifixes on the walls, if that is your thing! You can try to visit the magnificent sandstone house at the hospital campus in North Richmond when you are well and in sightseeing mode!
