I was referred to Dr. Rich to treat a chronic autoimmune lung condition that severely impacted my quality of life. Over the course of a year and a half, it finally became clear to me that I would never get better under his care. Dr. Rich clung to one mode of treatment-- massive doses of steroids-- that not only did not help the original disease, but also caused such severe side effects that I ended up in the ER twice with stroke-like symptoms. Even so, Dr. Rich refused to try other approaches. At the same time, at every visit he actively tried to convince me that my real problem was sleep apnea which required treatment at the sleep clinic which seemed to be his main interest. I finally made the decision to travel much farther to see a different lung specialist. The new doctor immediately began a new drug regimen that did not rely on steroids and slowly but surely reduced my symptoms almost to zero. Sleep apnea was confirmed to be at most a side issue, and when I lost the steroid weight, disappeared entirely. Five years later, my quality of life is back to the way it was before the disease, thanks to a doctor who knows what he is doing and actually seems to have my best interests at heart. Looking back, I've come to doubt whether I could say either about Dr. Timothy Rich.
