Dr. Metcalf is awesome. He's been our pediatrician for going on 13+ years. He was there when no one in the hospital could figure out what was wrong with our newborn, every one called it failure to thrive, but it wasn't. Doc figured it out, he had a cleft palate. Poor kid. Our kid has a medical file several inches thick and through it all. Metcalf has been there, step by step. He tells the most incredible stories, is fantastic with children, and truly a wonderful man. Our son once puked beets on him, and he shook it off, as if it were nothing. He had clean shirts in his office for such occasions. I can't say enough good about him, nor thank him enough for everything. We will be with this pediatrician until he retires and miss him sorely after. I trust no other peds doc.

Dr Metcalf is a very caring, intelligent man. Sure, his bedside manner takes some getting used to, but once you know him, you love him. He has saved my sons life more than once. He is incredible with his ability to diagnose and truly cares about each and everyone of his patients. If someone is looking for a pediatrician capable and brave enough to care for special needs children, he is your man. Cannot speak more highly of him. He doesn't beat around the bush, he will tell you the truth. If you are looking for a dr who will coddle you and your child, he is not for you. If you are looking for a dr that will provide your child with excellent care, Dr Metcalf will provide!

I have found it interesting to read the accounts of the 'haters' here. While I can appreciate the vulnerable state that parents of young, sick children can feel left in, these same people need to remember why they are going to this Dr. in the first place. Put simply, it is for his clinicial skills, not his PR prowess. When the chips are down, I would hope these individuals, whose posts may well be classed as "hurt feelings" reports, don't mislabel his candour as symptomatic of somehow being anything less than a phenomenal clinician. I am alive today because of this man. It is not modest to say that I owe my very life to his spot-on insticts and meticulous clinical skill. That was over 30 years ago, and it appears he has not slowed down. He is an incredible clinician, and is extremely dedicated to his profession. While not necessarily receiving full marks for his 'people skills', as a physican, he is amazing - and is that not why we seek him out in the first place?

Dr. Metcalf is a genius. Yes, his British upbringing makes him seem rude, but he pulls no punches. He won't sugarcoat things, and if he feels a parent has done something not wise, he won't hold it in. The man knows his business. My daughter has a genetic disorder. He is the one who diagnosed it, after 4 doctors blew off the symptoms as 'birthmarks'. Anyone who thinks his manner is rude, well maybe you just didn't like the way he had to go about showing you that he was right, because even though you took your child to him, you didn't want to listen to him. A man who has more real medical experience than most of the doctors that come from other countries. And rudeness, I have seen the way some of you treat your kids in his office, and you have no room to talk!

I use Dr. Tuazon primarily. However, there have been times when I had to call in the off hours and Dr. Metcalf returned my call. He is demeaning, rude, does not listen to concerns. I agree he should not be dealing with Children at all! I am currently looking into finding another pediatrician...

I agree wholeheartedly with the previous post. This doctor SMOTHERED my 5 month old babies mouth to prove to me that she could breath out of her nose if she wanted to when I brought her in with a congestion concern. I wanted to punch him to get him off my daughter as she started struggling almost immediately and his knuckles were white against her mouth, so this wasn't a "gentle" touch at all. I ceased all further appointments and now make sure to personally tell EVERYONE I know with small children looking for a new Pedi to stay away from this quack!!!!! He may have been good in the day, but he badly needs to retire!

This guy should not be dealing with children period. He is loud, rude, blunt and swears in front of little kids. He also tried to discipline my son because he was CRYING because he is SO SCARED of him. It took him three tries to figure out what was going on with my son. It seemed like he was guessing every time. I would not tell anyone to see him.
