Biography

Dr. Stone has been practicing cosmetic dentistry in Ft. Lauderdale since 1979. His success as a cosmetic dentist is based on years of advanced dental education culminating in a specialty degree in Prosthodontics and over 40 years of practical experience. He currently teaches dental implant therapy to dentists in two different locations: Atlantic Coast Dental Research Clinic at Palm Beach College and at Broward Dental Research Clinic at Broward College. He is a specialist in tooth replacement, a Prosthodontist, and has been placing dental implants surgically since 1991. Dr Stone obtained his DDS degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. After graduation, he attended a 2-year hospital residency program at the prestigious Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center, Queens Hospital Affiliation in New York. Most dentists do not take a hospital residency program and even fewer attend a 2-year program. In his second year Dr Stone was made Chief Resident. A hospital residency trains doctors in more advanced and complicated treatments than dental schools. The experience Dr. Stone gained was beyond anything he would have achieved by going directly into private practice after dental school. Dr Stone went on to a 2-year specialty program in Prosthodontics at the Medical College of Georgia. Prosthodontists are experts in dental rehabilitation and have mastered many procedures including: crowns, caps, bridges, veneers, removable partial dentures, dentures and dental implants. In addition to restoring dental implants, Dr. Stone also surgically places implants. Dr. Stone teaches implant dentistry to other dentists at 2 local continuing dental education programs. Prosthodontists receive extensive training and experience in dental esthetics and cosmetics during their graduate programs, which currently lasts three years. Many cosmetic dentists receive training during seminars or a series of courses, but this training is usually limited to weekend or possibly week long courses. The Prosthodontist is best viewed as the “architect” of your dental project. Dr. Stone has the vision of your final outcome, both the esthetics of your smile and the improved function of your bite. Dr. Stone originally moved to South Florida from Detroit, Michigan in 1968. He attended the University of Miami, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry. Dr. Stone received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1974 at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Dentistry in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Stone’s path toward becoming a cosmetic dentist continued to expand. As a junior student, Dr. Stone was one of the first to practice outside of the School of Dentistry by performing dental procedures at a Public Health facility in the Newport News, Virginia area. As a senior student, Dr. Stone became an exchange student with the Rush Presbyterian School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois for the summer session. Dr. Stone completed the Medical College of Virginia program, graduating in 1974. Upon graduation he became Board Eligible in the specialty of prosthodontics and established his practice as a Prosthodontist and cosmetic dentistry in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
