Dr. Hopper is a top notch plastic surgeon and hair restoration specialist. Attentive, he has an expert opinion and can be trusted completely. First meeting, I jokingly said something about a blepharoplasy. His response: "No, your eyes are fine" (perfectly true), so no sales job here. He looks at you carefully, listens well, and thoroughly collaborates with you throughout the process.
I had the "stealth lift" (face/ neck lift). Fully recovered, you'd never know I had it. No more chub under the chin, no more middle-aged sag (I'm a 54 year old male). The face/ neck lift itself was essentially painless on surgery day and upon waking. The first week of recovery was made more comfortable than other surgeries I've had by starting the pain meds AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Good pain management is preemptive.
If anything, Dr. Hopper's clinic is almost too careful about guarding your health. He needs a letter from your physician (fitness for surgery etc.), bloodwork, current medications, the works. His anesthesiologist is a qualified physician specialist, who is equally "belt and suspenders" when it comes to safety. Because most of the risk is usually from the anesthesia, a "less is more" approach is taken with dosages. Still, the convalescence (where the pain and discomfort actually happens), was comfortable compared to wisdom tooth extraction and appendectomy done previously. There is a bandage, swelling and bruising. I looked really interesting the first week. My face went from somewhat triangular, to diamond shaped, to King Henry the Eighthesque, as bruising/ swelling travels downwards. I was up and about within a week, and most of it was healed at two weeks or so.
I also had a hair transplant with Dr. Hopper. I was thining on top, especially at the front. Unlike other "hair specialists", this man is a bona fide, credentialed surgeon (safety first), with zero discomfort about "doing the front". Which is important, as the front is most of what people see.
Eight months later, it's an almost complete route, hairline perfectly restored. Perhaps still some hint of "earliest stage thinning" when the hair is really wet. Nothing unnatural looking. Success is somewhere in the 90-95% range. You wouldn't think I had any hair loss if you met me now.
Insertion of the follicles is somewhat painful (in spite of local anesthesia); an awake procedure unlike the stealth lift. It's a series of brief, exquisite but bearable pin pricks, over a couple of hours as I recall. The anxiolytic and pain meds helped. Convaslescence from that was made harder by the fact I couldn't put my head back (because of the removed bits of skin from the back of my head). This problem was mitigated by an "ear protector" (a small foam pad with an "ear hole", sold on Amazon.com).
He charges about the same as other plastic surgeons.
Five stars.
