Let me preface my rating by saying this: I am a true patient of Dr. Underwood. I am not writing this revie because have seen him to get pain meds. I have never received pain meds nor seen Dr. UNderwood for anything that requires pain meds. I say this because I can read between the lines of some other reviews. Now on with my review.
I have been a patient of Dr. Underwood for 3-4 years and the wait times in his office are beyond ridiculous, but they are with it. I had seen so many doctors trying to get to why my body was shutting down on me at such a young age and no doctor ( neurologist, orthopedic, internal medicine etc.) could tell me anything and would just prescribe meds on what they “thought” was wrong and never a diagnosis.
Well a coworker told me to go see Dr. Underwood and he will certainly get to the bottom of the problem. After two maybe three visits Dr. Underwood found the problem put me in the hospital and I was goodness as new. I finally had a true diagnosis, and treatments to get me back on the road to a normal life. Unfortunately there is no cure but Dr. Underwood’s certainly found the problem and I am on meds manage the problem and the specialist Dr. Underwood asked me to follow up with even tell someone me he consults with Dr Underwood regarding the best route if treatment for me.
Dr. Underwood is an excellent Dr. So please don’t discount that over a wait time.
I would rather wait 3 hours to be seen and get answers rather than see a Dr. Who rushes you in and out and not help at all.

You may wait 3-4 hours for him to come to work. Comes in around noon to 1pm daily. Staff is discourteous and have don't care attitude. Worst Dr. and staff I have seen in 64 years, Horrible!!!!

Again, in this office, the staff does NOT release medical records. The doctor does this. The staff does NOT sign prescriptions or the refills. If you are sent out for testing, make a follow up appointment. Results are not given out over the phone.
Staff is limited in what we can and cannot do,
Please understand this.

In response to the comments... Yes, there is generally a longer wait than in other offices that may herd you in and out like cattle.
As far as records are concerned, the staff does not do the release of medical records. We can only take your request.
He does not hand out pain meds. We will send you to pain management doctors if you feel the need to require long term pain medication.
He is a great doctor . If you have been battling an ailment, he will find out what the problem is, even things many doctors have missed. Testing is,very important when trying to get to the root of a problem. He is a DO, Doctor of Osteopathy. The schooling is the same, the methods are slightly different. He is to find and fix the root of the problem, not continue to cover up your symptoms.
That being said, the current staff does truly care about our patients. Our patients become our friends, and our family.

I THINK DR UNDERWOOD IS A GREAT DOCTOR BECAUSE HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AT WHAT HE DOES, THE BEST THING ABOUT HIM IS THAT HE TAKES THE TIME TO SAT/LISTEN TO HIS PATIENTS WHICH HE EXPLAINS THROUGHLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND BREAKS IT DOWN TO THE BEST UNDERSTANDINGS, IN 2006 I WAS DIAGNOSED W/THIS DISEASE CALLED SARCOIDOSIS, THE ONLY THING I KNEW ABOUT SARCOIDOSIS WAS IT IS A PULMONARY DISEASE DEALING W/MY LUNGS IN SOME CAPACITY, "I STILL DONT HAVE HAVE A CLUE" OF WHAT IT IS UNTIL I JUST RECENTLY BECAME A PATIENT OF DR.UNDERWOOD." WHO KINDLY SAT DOWN & TOOK THE TIME" TO LISTEN TO ME AND HE EXPLAINED SARCOIDOSIS, HE BROUGHT A CHART W/THE FUNCTIONS OF THE LUNGS HE THEN EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM THROUGHLY IN WHICH "I NOW UNDERSTAND" WHAT SARCOIDOSIS MEAN NOW. AND I AM GONNA KEEP DRIVING FROM IRVING,TX TO GREENVILLE AND I WILL ALWAYS RECOMMEND THE ONE AND ONLY #1 DOCTOR THAT CARES.....................#DR.HENRY L.UNDERWOOD......#GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS AND (SHAKE THEM HATERS OFF)........THE END

The Doctor was great , but the wait time is unlike anything I have ever seen my husband had to wait 6 hours one day he was there until 8:00 pm on a week day! The price of the visit is outrageous ! The staff is what I would call a nightmare when u need your records they blow you off and don't return your calls I've never seen anything like this . I would not recommend this place to anyone!

The wait time is unacceptable. Poor communication. Lack of knowledge. There is always a need to blame someone else for the staff members short comings (they blame prior employees for current short comings.....which i find ridiculous, please tell me how an employee from 2 years ago failed to follow up and give test results or over charge my insurance.....im a new patient.....did you pull my chart or is this a standard statement for the practice just to get rid of you on the phone?)

I waited 3 hours to be seen. His staff is rude. I overheard his loud medical assistant going over medicines with a patient. No one wants to hear about other peoples health problems. The counter was a mess and you could see personal information all over. Ive reported him and his staff. 2 thumbs down!!! I heard some patients in the waiting room say they were there to just get their pain pills and leave.. hes basically a legalized drug dealer. Hope he is shut down soon. I left after 3 hour wait. No way would I trust this so called dr with my health!! Avoid him at all costs!!
