I recently received a diagnosis that compelled me to comment on Dr. Stephen Weber. The treatment I received was absolutely inexcusable. A short history of my situation... I have been dealing with severe and debilitating shoulder pain for a few years after an injury I incurred at work. After fighting tooth and nail with work comp, I was finally granted a chance to see an orthopedic surgeon to evaluate my diagnostics. I was also hoping to have Dr. Weber approve a MRI arthrogram (the only definitive way to prove my diagnosis). I knew without his approval, work comp insurance would likely deny it, even though my primary physician and two other doctors had wanted me to get one (if you have ever dealt with work comp and are actually injured, you understand the emotional distress I've gone through).

I had a good experience with Dr. Weber's receptionist, the medical assistants or nurses (not sure) were nice, but a little cold. I waited in the exam room while Dr. Weber was apparently reviewing my diagnostics (MRI without contrast of shoulder and x-rays). He came into the room, told me my shoulder was probably fine and that my pain was only coming from my neck. I explained to him that couldn't be possible because of the type of shoulder pain. He did a brief exam and told me he didn't think an arthrogram was necessary (even though it's the only way to prove what was wrong). Basically he spent less than fifteen minutes with me and completely tore my heart to pieces. He did not listen to my concerns, he just shrugged me off and told me it was only my neck. I left his office sobbing.

When I told my doctor about this, he was not happy. My primary physician was finally able to get the MRI arthrogram approved after a lot of work. When I got the results, I knew that I had to write a review of Dr. Weber. The results showed that my shoulder has a significant injury.... WOW. So if I just lived with Dr. Weber's negligent diagnosis I would not have known that I do in fact need a different type of treatment. Luckily for me, my primary physician and I did not back down. Dr. Weber did not even give my case any thought... it's as if he just didn't care that my future rests on what happens with this injury. I felt like he could not have cared less. He was arrogant and had no interest in what I had to say about my injury.

I had arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery. Immediately after the surgery I notified doctor Webber that I was experiencing extreme weakness. It was ignored in fact his physical therapist kept putting down the highest marks for recovery strength. I told him every visit that I felt a disconnect with my tricep and I only had a fraction of my strength. I couldn't get the doctor's attention. I switched doctors and was tested. Webber damaged a nerve in my shoulder, but never would never acknowledge it.

5 months after surgery still not better. Dr Weber refused to acknowledge anything was wrong and said my symptoms were not serious. Stated that enough money had been spent on me. He stated that I could lift 10 lbs. ( how would he know he never tested me). He would not authorize another MRI. Went to another Dr., got another MRI and discovered the surgery had failed and I had 3 torn tendons & a dislocated bicep.

Being unable to raise my right hand above belt level invited my fellow black belts to kick me in the head - too often for this nice 76 year old man. My surgery is a humeral glenoid implant aka shouler replacement. I was in the hospital less than 24 hours, fed the pain pills to my toilet and am still waiting now 4 years for the pain to show up. Rep band therapy [faithfully 600 reps a day for 90] days-started one week after surgery; and i nearly tossed the therapist through his office window as he tested my strength after 30 days. Dr. Weber is a genius, and i am looking forward to miniscus replacements when the time comes for Dr. Weber to do that. He gets a 5 here only because there is no provision for a higher rating. On my personal rating system, he is a solid "NO ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT!".

Wow. Unfortunately, I had a similar experience to the person who commented above in regards to how he manages a patient's pain. After my left shoulder arthroscopic surgery in late 2000, he prescribed me a minimal amount of Vicodin post-surgery, even though he knew that I was taking something twice as strong, twice as often, pre-surgery. When I called two days later to request something else, he basically said to deal with it i.e.. he didn't want to hear about it. To say that I felt a lack of empathy would be a generous way to put it.

This doctor laughed at my pain (literally), and said I'd "have to live with it"--my arm is partially paralyzed from a car accident. He is brusque, dismissive, and arrogant. I'm seeking a second opinion. Seeing him wasted my time, and I feel very depressed about not "moving forward with diagnosis or treatment.
