Excellent physician. Yes, he gets a bad rap for being honest. If you smoke, don't use your insulin pump properly or are simply a non compliant patient, seek a different doctor because you obviously are not concerned about your health so why should he be? He is one if the few good ones. It's like life...everyone loves the sweet teacher but what did you get. Did you get to be the best you could be if someone maybe had pushed you. He's going to push you, demand your best but in return he gives it back and you'll truly have a doctor that is concerned for your overall health. I have been a patient for 2 years and never felt better! I think I would have been in the hospital if he has not become my doctor. And let me tell you, he's not afraid to call out a fellow doctor for failing to do their job!

If you are looking to make a friend Dr. Trippe may not be your guy. If you are looking for a great doctor, he is the one. I have survived Type 1 for over 52 years. So I have seen my share of physicians. He is the best. One testiment to that is that I drive 400 miles round trip for my appointment. I have found that you get what you give in his practice. If the patient is not doing thier best, Dr. Trippe will send you packing. Once he saw how committed I was to treatment, he became almost mellow.....almost. As far as the staff I have found them very pleasant and able. I have seen many of there for the last eight years. I found Dr. Trippe to be like TV's Dr. House. He is not a drinking buddy but a damn fine doctor.

Arrogant to say the least. Makes the patient feel stupid if you question.

Dr Trippe seems to be a wonderful doctor. He is brusque and always seems in a hurry, but the information he gives is quality information. It is very stressful to be seen by this man. Being with an insurance company that requires referrals for everything, makes seeing Dr Trippe stressful to work with. He referred me to 3 other doctors on my first visit. Two werew authorized and one was not, which caused major concern that he would drop me as a patient because I "Didn't follow directions." unfortunately I cannot afford $1,000 for another doctor if insurance won't cover it. He is very up front that he will drop you if you do not follow his orders. Unfortunately sometimes his orders are not feasible. Buying a medic-alert band is reasonable, seeing a particular diet specific psychologist when there are others that insurance will cover is not. I have three others that insurance will cover, but they are not who he ordered... will he drop me? I hope not. stressful.

Dr. Trippe is absolutely the best doctor that I have. His command of medicine, plus his concern for his patients, exceeds all reasonable expectations. He has personally saved my life once, plus vastly improved the quality of my health for more than 20 years.

Dr. Trippe is a true genius--he is widely considered to be the greatest medical mind in the Southeastern U.S. by physicians in this area. I feel that you have to cut such brilliant people some slack. It is true that Dr. Trippe can be rude and abrasive, but he is the most thorough doctor I've ever seen. As an earlier poster noted, Dr. Trippe treats the whole person--I've never had any doctor take such good care of me as he does. For example, he asked when I'd had a colonoscopy, and when he didn't like the answer he scheduled one for me. That's not ENDOCRINOLOGY, but Dr. Trippe has always cared for my total health. His staff is pretty pathetic and seems to change about every six months--it's clear that Dr. Trippe is a hard man to work for. But under his care, my health has improved from "expected to die soon" to "outstanding." Look for warm fuzzies elsewhere--see Dr. Trippe for brilliant health care.

Dr. Trippe expects cooperation from his patients or they need to go to another doctor. He looks after his "whole patient", which is very rare these days. Not everyone falls into the "normal" category and I previously had another doctor who thought I did. Dr. Trippe is somewhat excentric but a very fine doctor -- one who has remained in Montgomery, AL while many have jumped ship. If you want a doctor who expects nothing but a "yes" man who collects a copay, find another doctor. But I dare say you won't find a better doctor.

I have been an insulin dependent juvenile diabetic for over 40 years with only 1 hospitalization for this diagnosis. I went to Dr. Trippe for continual care when moving to Montgomery. He acted as though he was the only person that knew anything about diabetets. He WOULD NOT listen to anything I had to say about my past history, symptoms or current regimen. I was a knowledgeable patient and he was threatened by that. He started me on a new insulin. Evert day he would change me to a different insulin. He never gave the insulins a chance to work. I was in the worse shape of my diabetic life. I have worked in the medical field all of my life and NO patient should be subjected to this type of (MIS)treatment. There are better endocrinologists in the state. A little TLC goes a long way in the treatment and progress of a patient.

Dr. Trippe was a trip. I went to him to see if my Diabetes was affecting my infertility. This man ran all types of tests. He didn't ask many questions. He ended up presribing me over $200 in medicine and I ended up with bills (After BCBS) of $200 or more. It was crazy. Maybe he does know his stuff but the way he made me feel was crucial. I had my legs shocked with some test and the pain was next to that of birthing my two beautiful children. I ended up pregnant a few months after a visit with him but not because of anything that he had done to help me. I simple started exercising and eathing better. I lost a few pounds, took Geritol, and ended up pregnant. I will never go back to him.
