Two back surgeries perfectly done.. Not a bit of residual pain from either surgery. Number 1 in our book. Follow up visits with him were efficient, focused and comprehensive.

Staff rude and unhelpful. Instead of doctor I was seen by a physician assistant who couldn't answer my questions and the doctor came in and out and I had to go back to my primary care doctor to find out what treatment I should have.

Dr Mason is a skilled, knowledgeable surgeon. He and his staff communicated all options and concerns relative to my brain tumor resection and strokes. I feel that I received the best care available.

When daily low back and leg pain started preventing me every day from doing what I enjoyed, I finally accepted that I was going to have to do something. I sought help locally but didn’t like the anterior surgical approach (through my abdomen) a local surgeon described. I sought a second opinion from Dr. Mason at the recommendation of a friend. After reviewing Dr. Mason's credentials and experience, I decided it was worth the 500 mile trip to his office. After a thorough workup and a clear diagnosis on the first office visit, he sent me home with orders and instructions to try several conservative management strategies first, saying, "I'm a neurosurgeon. I make my living doing surgery. I'm still telling you to try non-surgical therapies first!" So I tried them. After a full year with only marginal improvement, we were both finally convinced surgery was my best option. Dr. Mason did a TLIF at L5-S1 (you can look it up). Competent post-op care, slowly advancing activity limits, and authoritative guidance on how to successfully rehab have given me a strong back, no more pain, a return to my normal activities, and enormous confidence in Dr. Mason. This guy takes his job VERY seriously. That's the kind of surgeon you want cleaning up bony impingement on your spinal cord! I am enormously grateful for Dr. Mason's care!

Dr. Mason was very helpful in explaining what he thought was causing my lower back problem (back and leg pain). He gave me my options for treatment and I chose physical therapy. I stuck it out for a year and my pain got a little better but I still had some bothersome pain. I decided to have a disc operation with Dr. Mason and it has made a huge difference. I have been able to do almost everything pain free.

Alex Mason is a master at what he does. From a MRI that showed little, he made the Executive decision to operate on my back. After I woke up from my surgery, Alex Mason was very pleased to let me know that he was able to free up my nerves and relieve compression in my back. I am so happy and blessed that he decided to work on me. Because of him, I'm now on the recovery to being pain free! Thank you Alexander Mason. You helped change my life!

Dr. Mason is a very nice, compassionate and caring surgeon. He took care of my elderly mother during our recent hospital stay for a brain bleed. He was precise and accurate about her options, and ultimately did surgery for her condition. She has made an excellent recovery and I am very grateful for his expertise. Thank you!

When Dr. Mason described the statistics on my back surgery he cited the chance of surgery being unsuccessful as 5%. Immediately before the surgery he cited them as 10%. I may be an outlier, but my surgery was unsuccessful. Additionally, I never saw Dr. Mason after my surgery, even though I continued to receive care for over a year. It wasn't until over a year after my surgery that the PA told me he had noticed an indication of nerve damage during the surgery, indicating that the surgery would not fix my problem. I spent over a year recovering, doing physical therapy, and trying to recover from surgery. Now, in addition to my back and leg pain, I also have complication from the surgery (cutting through muscle and tendons). Dr. Mason is very nice, but I am definitely not pleased with my treatment and outcome, especially since they waited over a year to tell me that I had nerve pain and the surgery would not resolve my problem.
