About a decade ago Dr. Stephen Theiss Saved My Life ! He This Man Is a Brilliant Surgeon Period . I had developed an Extreme & Lethal case of osteomyelitis my Lower Back or more specifically ( my Sacrum) the “S1” disk & joint . I desperately visited a hoard of “Specialists” & Surgeons who shook their heads & just referred me on to someone else because they Had No Clue What To Do ! (Although One Neurosurgeon did Try & Fail) . My S1 Disc & Joint had slowly & thoroughly been “destroyed” by Sepsis (a deadly infection ..(blood poisoning) . Thankfully one of Radiologists noticed there was no sign of infection when the MRI was done “Without Contrast “ but eventually when my MRI was repeated “With Contrast” . I was finally diagnosed along with the source of my severe pain & chronic sepsis. This was A relief since I had been told repeatedly it was “All in My Head”. Then One of those radiologists later called my Rheumatologist & recommended This Young Brilliant up & coming Surgeon (Dr Theiss) who was completing a Research Study @ UAB treating Cancer of the Lower Spine! I WAS accepted & allowed to participate. My back surgery was performed via my Abdomen. . Dr Theiss possesses a “genius” knowledge level regarding not only Orthopedics but Neurosurgery & Oncology as well . I’m a UAB RN graduate from 1985 & I have worked with Many Physicians over the decades. I Immediately Knew this Young Surgeon was the answer to my prayers. I was dying . Although He looked Very young I came to have Full Confidence in this Young Man . He skillfully explained he would need to enter thru my Abdomen In order to reach & remove the remaining fragments of necrosis
(dead) & infected S1 disk bone then rebuild the disk with “Donor Bone” ! Our lower Spine is protected by the large hip plates making any surgery in the sacral area very tricky . I can never Thank Dr Theiss & his staff enough for Returning both my Life & Mobility ! Bless You !
